Li almost had to admire the man as he sauntered up with that easy, almost boyish grin of his; insolent to the very end the pirate scum made it clear that this fight of theirs would go beyond simple vengeance, they were not so petty as to thick there was some grandiose cause they stood by. As ground cleared, the very earth opening its maw to lay down the gauntlet for the final show down between two proud warriors, not men representing anyone save for themselves. Salty winds flowed through the wounds that burned with the passion of hell’s finest infernos yet the young officer kept his face ice cold as he met those bared teeth with a smile almost as villainous as the man himself, “Don’t think of this as a battle between good versus evil or even a marine versus a pirate…” he explained as his body eased into the vaguely familiar fighting stance that he had left behind for the shining steel variety of combat.
Familiarity snaked through his being and once more he felt the rhythm returning to him as the sky darkened in anticipation…and as if the gods themselves sanctioned this showdown rain fell upon them delaying any other marine distractions; leaving them to their own devices. As an officer Li Shengshun was well aware of the dangers of the situation and the escape of Blackeye was to be prevented at all costs, but there was a small portion of his being…it called to him. Beneath the bandages tightly bound over his torso and kissed gently by the intensifying winds lay muscles that flexed and loosened as if attempting to regain a taste of what had once been instinct,
“…what I’m saying my tanuki looking friend is that we are not men of principals. Regretfully speaking of course, but I hope that just means that we can have a nice uncivilized duel to the death” he said as finally his hips were set. Time stood still as every dropped ‘pinged’ against the ground in individual instances and the world only narrowed the rugged buccaneer before him. He wasn’t sure what the man felt or if perhaps he might have heard the death bells tolling in the background, he wasn’t sure whether Blackeye would fight that fate…what he did know was that in this moment, they would surpass the realm of men and stand as gods for one final clash.
Signaling the beginning of the doomsday matchup was the white hot crack of lightening that flashed overhead, seeming to strike not far near the navy warship which Greenbeard was on, but Li never knew this nor would he have acknowledged it. By the time the sky resumed its gloomy darkness the boyishly handsome youth had taken the nine steps required to close the space between himself and the toned brawler, his senses limited to that finite moment when each fighter became aware of one another in relation to space. A yell that he had not known he held within his being erupted forth as the rain drops helplessly had their path halted, but the slicing fist that cut through the wind with a force almost as intense as the wind itself. Heaven itself would shatter under the blow…but for now its target was a man, “Good night Blackeye…with this I’ll become the strongest” came the final thought before all was reduced to motion and reaction.
Beasts danced where men feared to tarry and this battle would hail the conquering of Serine city…a cause lost on such men, but stories would be told of Blackeye and as such the legends would grow to preposterous lengths until two demons of old would be forged. It all came down to one question:
Who would rise as the saint to prevail over the monstrous devil?
