The tundra was a blank sheet on the landscape of Drum Island. Nearly lifeless, the cold fangs of the arctic weather bit into all that came here. I say nearly lifeless, because one man was walking in the snow. His footprints engraved in the cold ground until a blizzard hit, an event that was very likely in the winters of Drum Island. This man stood towering at 8ft 6, dressed in bright orange, and wore a crown. For anyone that didn't know him, he could have been the ruler of this place. On his back, a sceptre was strapped. On top of the sceptre was a golden orb. This man, his attire aside, looked like a normal human being, like you and me.
Except, he wasn't. The man I am describing is "Checkmate King" Alek Sorenson. He is a cyborg. This means he can do things many other humans cannot, as well as things other cyborgs can't. So why was Alek Sorenson walking through the tundra? A mystery to all but himself. No one but he knows how he got here, but there is one thing we can all safely say is in our knowledge.
Alek Sorenson is not alone.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Alek walked through the frozen wastes of uncivilised Drum Island. Nothing resided here, not even the hardiest of animals. That was normal, apart from one thing. A group of outlines were moving towards him at an astonishing rate. These outlines had sharp fangs, black claws, and a penchant for raising cain.
Arctic wolves.
These wolves were sly, cunning and intelligent. They worked in packs to take down their foe and devour their prey. Against a normal opponent they would have overwhelmed the unsupecting Alek, but the "Checkmate King" is no normal opponent. The wolves all pounced upon Alek, an unseen force in the heaviliy falling snow. They pinned him, and grinned madly, before they made to rip at his flesh.
"Get off me you vile beasts!" cried Alek.
Using his superior strength, Alek Sorenson threw the wolves off of his person. He looked around, concentrating now, and made out the figures of the animals.
"Now I've seen you..." he began.
He had targeted three wolves infront of him, and immediately shot them using the pistols in his fingers. The other wolves saw this with their adapted eyesight (they were used to the snow obscuring their vision and had since evolved to deal with it), and backed off slightly. A bold one ran at Alek from behind, but he promptly turned around and planted his foot in it's face. The force from a normal kick would have set the beast packingnot badly hurt, but, being a cyborg, Alek didn't have normal limbs. The kick was so strong that it broke the wolf's jaw clean off. The animal went into shock, and Alek took the moment to make an example of it. Alek Sorenson kicked the wolf between its eyes, and the animal flew backwards as far as the eye could see. After a while, a loud thud could be heard(the animal had hit something solid).
As expected, the rest of the pack ran off with their tails between their legs.
"Foul beasts." commented Alek.
He cleaned his shoe, and trudged on. If he moved too slowly, he would get lost in the seemingly endless expanse of the tundra. All that remained of the fight was a small trail of blood that denoted the direction the wolf had temporarily taken flight in.
