Name of Island: Academy Island
Size of Island: Medium sized springtime island.
Location: Grand Line, Warring Route! (School is war!)
Inhabitants: This island is Mostly inhabited by students and their teachers. There is effectively a war going on here between two rival schools.
Town(s)/Village(s)/City or Cities: Oxbridge- This city is pretty well known throughout the world as a centre for academic excellence. It is quite large and since it is where one of the world’s premier academies is located, there are many bookstores. The colours of this town and its academy are yellow and blue. In the centre of the town there is a statue to the town’s founder, the great scholar Albert Oxbridge.
Oxbridge Academy- This is a famous school that teaches from kindergarten all the way up to university. While technically only a location, the amount of students housed in its dorms and faculty buildings make this school the size of a small town. The academy is decorated in the same colours as the town, with the school uniform also bearing these colours; it also has many monuments and paintings of the very first dean of the academy, Albert Oxbridge.
Princeford- Another city on the other side of the island, it too boasts much the same as Oxbridge, with many bookstores and renown for academic ability. It also looks remarkably like Oxbridge save for the town square has its own statue of its founder, Isaac Princeford. It also has the town colours of Red and Green.
Princeford Institute- The second, almost identical school, this one has it’s effigies and colours the same as its local town.
Shabbytown- This is a rather small and humble town in the middle of the island that tends to get downtrodden in the intellectual and not so intellectual battles between the schools either side of it. The people of this town are poor and can’t afford to go to either of the elite schools so most of their children attend Shabbytown’s school.
Shabby School- differing from the maginificent appearance of the other two schools, Shabby School’s appearance is in the name, it’s shabby!
This school is held in a run-down building, for the students who are either too poor or for one reason or another unable to apply for the more prominent educational facilities.
Flora and Fauna: The flora and fauna of this island seem geared towards learning;
Abacus Tree’s- Thin and spindly tree’s that have ten small, movable nubs on each of their branches, reminding one of an abacus.
Dramatic Ducks- These ducks have a passion for melodrama and despite looking mostly ordinary, can be told apart because they carry a skull around with them which they tend to act out dramatic scenes with.
Geography Gophers- Borrowing creatures who seem to be talented in cartography since they habitually draw maps of places to help them and others get around. (Zoro could use one as a pet!)
Historical Hedgehogs- Small creatures that seem to have knowledge of ancient languages, they use the quills on their back to write things in strange symbols at night.
Mathematic Meer Cats- strange creatures who seem to pop up in some very strange arrangements. Their groups always seem to conform to being a square number (Such as single, a group of four, nine, sixteen… Etc).
Scientific Squrrels- These animals have white fur on their packs and front legs, making them seem like they’re wearing lab coats. They have a passion for chemistry and often swipe ingredients from travellers to make strange (And sometimes useful) concoctions.
Island History: The island was first discovered over 700 years ago by your standard non-descript adventurer types, like many of the routes. However, it wasn’t until 500 years ago when a pair of scholars, Albert Oxbride and Isaac Princeford arrived that it really started to take off as a settlement. These two were a very learned and brilliant pair that together solved a lot of the scientific questions of the world and posed many philosophical questions.
They aid of kingdoms had made them both very wealthy, and had decided that this island would be the perfect place to build an academy. As they had grown up, they had found that their intelligence wasn’t nurtured very well in many of the world’s schools, so they had decided to use their wealth and renown to build a mighty academy where the best and most brilliant mind would never be left unchallenged. They started to develop a school in the centre of the island, but their dream partnership was soon to end.
After a blowout between them about what colours the school should use, Oxbridge insisting that blue and yellow would be the best whilst Princeford fiercely maintained that red and green was better. As their relationship continued to dissolve, they abandoned the idea of a central academy and instead each started building one at opposite ends of the island. The academies were finished but the disagreement between the former friends was never resolved, and eventually became the rivalry that now exists between the two schools.
Soon after the academies completion, towns were developed near them and quickly the rich families of the students had created decadent learning centres. However, in the centre of the island, from what was once the original site of the combined academy, a third habitat emerged. This place was called Shabbytown and housed the less able brains and financiers of the island. However, it also became the battleground for more than one sort of conflict. Rival gangs from the schools would meet up and challenge each other both intellectually and… Less intellectually. Furthermore, there was also fierce competition between the two principle schools to win the scholarships of the brighter individuals that emerged from Shabbytown. This was more out of pride than actual need, since each wanted to show they could outdo the other.
However, in recent years the youngsters have had enough of being trampled, and their own gang has risen, causing various kinds of trouble for all parties involved…
