Name of Island: Blue Lagoon
Size of Island: Very small, it looks like only a few large rocks rising from the ocean.
Location: Grand Line, Reflection Route.
Inhabitants: Blue Lagoon is an aquatic refuge and is mostly inhabited by Fishfolk, Merfolk and other aquatic species. There are a few humans that have found their way into town and also a ‘friendly’ Sea King.
Town(s)/Village(s)/City or Cities: Blue Lagoon- A solitary village that is located inside the hollow rock structure of the island. One cannot reach its entrance without first going underwater and even then their Sea King guardian might prove an obstacle. Usually the town is avoided by those without business there, because if the Sea King doesn’t get you, the Fishmen will. The inhabitants and certain guests know the secret of getting past the sea king, but tend not to share it with outsiders.
The village itself has a luxurious dank feel to it, the moist air welcoming it’s aquatic inhabitants. It can become confusing to outsiders since most of the abodes are built into the shells of giant caravan crabs, who have a tendency to move around and rearrange the village requently. You can go to sleep in the east and by morning you’ll be on the western side of the island. The home owners have become friendly with the crabs and tend to treat them like landlords.
Originally some of the more naïve settlers tried to build shacks rather than renting from the crabs but when you’re woken in the night by giant crab legs smashing through your home, you tend to decide maybe it’s safer to live inside them. Their prices are pretty reasonable, after all.
In honour of the villages founder, Fisher Tiger, a large statue of him is placed on the Mayors residence crab (Or Crabidence as they have come to be known) that silently watches over all the ‘children’ he has placed here. Unknown to many, this statue was painstakingly carved out of a huge chunk of Kairouseiki that was found in the depths of Blue Lagoon.
Merchants Lookout- A shack on the outer rock where the wares of Blue Lagoon are traded with travellers, it also has an admittedly overpriced bar and inn to keep the stayovers entertained but hey, supply and demand! It took long, hard work to build its foundations into the rock after it came apparent that it was a foolish idea to keep rebuilding it in a nearby area of sand.
The current Mayor is a former pirate fishman named Bask who was elected by popular vote when he beat Tusky the Walrus in both the drinking contest and laps around the island without being sick.
While the community does have a Mayor, to emphasize the equality shared by all species, everyone gets an equal say in the islands policies.
Flora and Fauna: Much of the island is underwater, so it has many varieties of fish and marine plant life all around it. Some creatures of note include:
Chompy the Sea King- A huge sea king (Though technically since Chompy is a girl, should she be a sea queen?) that acts as the guardian of the village. She looks like a huge, long eel with massive razor sharp teeth (Similar to the lord of the coast but a lot bigger) and is capable of wrapping herself around a battleship and crushing it. She was raised from an egg by a pair of kind youths from the village and seems to be especially fond of one of them, wrapping herself around him and nuzzling him tenderly with her snout.
Fishpeople- Strong and often strange looking mammals that have adapted to watery enviroments, they were once persecuted and are currently trying to rebuild their society. They have many different varieties which are useful in many ways. Not to be confused with merpeople as they give birth to live young in the same way as mammals.
Merpeople-Legendary creatures that can’t be bested in water speed, they are considered rare and young females are often hunted to be sold as slaves. They look human from the waist up and have long, fishlike tails. The beauty of their women is often spoke of by sailors. When a Mermaid reaches 30, her tail will split and she will be able to walk around on land like a human. Children of Merpeople and Humans tend to retain human traits but also manage to be exceptionally competent swimmers.
On one such occasion a child hybrid rescued a foolish man from certain doom of a mass of whirpools. Like Fishpeople, Merpeople have different varities but are not to be confused as being the same race.
Talking Animals- Every once in a while you come across animals that can talk the human language, which is considered bizarre by some. They show intelligence and happily co-exist with both speaking and non-speaking life, though not many people are sure as to where they come from.
Humans- Dry Skinned, smelly and ignorant creatures that through some course of events seem to have become the dominant species on the planet. They’re not all bad though…
Caravan Crabs- Huge Crabs the size of buildings that originally inhabited Blue Lagoon before its other residents settled there. They’re quite friendly and don’t mind renting out the excess space in their shells to people. Your basic one bedroom shell will cost you about 200 kelp a month but the largest will set you back many a Breen and Bass. They’re considered good accommodation since the huge crabs provide their own massive claw security as long as you don’t mind your home moving around while you’re in it. There seems to be a certain pattern in the way that they move not unlike a slow dance between them.
They have limited speech capabilities and seem to call all of their tenants ‘Dave’. On rent days the caves of Blue Lagoon echo with the words “Time for the rent, Dave…”
Plants;
Gillgae- A strange, bluish green bulbous sea weed that grows in the depths of Blue Lagoon, it is picked by the towns human inhabitants since when held in the mouth it allows them to breath as if their mouth were a gill.
It is rarely seen outside of Blue Lagoon and is considered to be very valuble.
Island History:For a long time, Blue Lagoon or Boring Rock as it was originally known was considered an anomaly on the log pose. It seemed to be nothing but a simple set of rocks poking from the ocean that a crew would moor up to for a few days whilst the log pose adjusted. It was only the folk who could travel below the ocean’s surface that knew of its real delights. Travelling though it’s underwater caves, one would find a huge open space filled with huge crabs that wandered around in an almost hypnotic dance.
It was the legendary Fisher Tiger that decided this would be a good place for homeless aquatic folk to live and originally negotiated the renting of shells with the Caravan Crabs. Dropping off many a liberated slave as well as orphaned children, Tiger helped the village grow quickly and some of his crewmembers opted to stay behind to help protect the land from slavers. They taught the children of the village their fishman karate for defence.
Around twelve years ago, an adventurous pair of youths brought back a sea king egg to raise in secret, but the fast speed with which the animal grew soon alerted the rest of the villagers to its presence. Initially the village was against having the creature inhabit the village, for fear that it would one day attack them, but a couple of senior members intervened and argued that since Blue Lagoon already had such a diverse range of species living there already, maybe the sea king could be part of them too.
Quickly, the village came to enjoy having the creature now known as ‘Chompy’ around as even when a pup it tended to mischievously bite the bottom from the slave ships that approached the area.
The village was completely understanding though, and agreed that in return for all the valuables they had, would rescue these ill-fated buggers from a watery grave.
