Distant As The Stars
Alhazred Chaldea’s general demeanour is that of a rather distant and absent-minded individual, always seeming to have her head elsewhere, or at least appearing to do so. To an extent, this is true, as her thoughts are seldom contained to the events going on about her, and often wander to distant realms of consideration (whether mystical or mundane), even in the midst of normal conversation. These aloof mannerisms are far from intentional, but present themselves often.
Student of Stars
Chaldea is quite the learned sort, soaking herself in books of various types, though not with a specific intent to further her knowledge. She genuinely just likes reading. However, she has absorbed a fair amount of interest in astrology, astronomy, and mathematics, making her a surprisingly adept navigator. That being said, some of her knowledge is a bit strange, or borderline irrelevant.
Revered Sorceress
Miss Alhazred is revered by her followers as a sorceress chosen by outer gods to serve as their messenger, though truth be told she doesn’t particularly understand why. All that she really knows is that the Gatekeepers respond to her every whim in kind, acting as diligent servants to her every need, often silently. However, despite her confusion as to why she is treated in such a way, she seems to take it in her stride and acts as if it is rather normal.
Exponential Entropist
Chaldea’s view of the cosmos is quite simple. The universe exists in a constant state of flux, governed only by chaos and happenstance, and the odd even coaxed into fruition by the powers that be. Law attempts to make order of the cosmic state of entropy, regardless of whether you are following it or breaking it, and so she seldom subscribes to said philosophies. All that is possible is ultimately fair, though that also means that acts of kindness and charity are just as necessary, if only to keep the equilibrium of the cosmos so that chaos can prevail evenly across all states.Appearance
Height:– 5’9”, approx. 175 cm
Build:– Slender
Eye Colour:– Inky Violet
Hair Colour:– Midnight Blue-Purple
Skin Tone:– Extremely Fair Olive
Notable Features:– None
Miss Alhazred stands 5’9” in height and possesses a generally more slender physique, perhaps indicative of her bookish and more academically inclined lifestyle. An olive skin tone may have once been quite dark, but her habit of avoiding sunlight in her pursuits of occult knowledge and cosmic understanding has caused her to fade to an almost unhealthy pallor, though much like those blessed with olive skin, tanning is far from an issue. Beyond her pallid complexion, however, her slender physicality is somewhat offset by being a little bit buxom, even if she doesn’t dress to accentuate it.
Chaldea’s face is a somewhat sharp heart shape, with a straight nasal bridge and thin lips, albeit dominated by rather large and tired-looking eyes of a dark and inky violet shade. Rather thick but short eyebrows sit rather high which, combined with her often distant gaze, gives her an almost perpetual look of being entranced by something unseen. Lengthy, jagged, and uneven waves of dark, blue-purple locks cascade down her back and twist in various directions, with messy bangs and stray locks protruding. Although she sometimes dons accessories to keep her hair contained, they seldom do the job.
Preferred Wardrobe
Chaldea’s personal trends include long, simple garments such as dresses and knitwear, usually a little more baggy than is probably necessary for her frame. Colour schemes stay on the darker side, but seldom use true black as anything more than lowlighting to bring out the saturations of dark blues, purples, and similar colours. Some degree of conservativeness in her wardrobe is prevalent, and you’ll seldom catch her exposing anything more than her face, hands, and a tiny bit of leg with some dress choices.Other Details
Speaker of Ancient Scripture
Chaldea’s research means that she has learned to read and translate the language once lost to time: The secrets of the Poneglyphs themselves are hers to peruse should she find such an object. Of course, should the fact she knows how to read such text ever reach the ears of the World Government, this would make her a wanted criminal. Fortunately for her, nobody’s ever gotten that far, nor understood what she babbles about. For now, at least.Fighting Style
Alhazred Chaldea is far from what many would consider a skilled combatant, but that doesn’t stop her from being a menace on the battlefield. Thanks to her consumption of the Boso Boso no Mi, she can perform unusual acts of sorcery that conjure forth portals through which cosmic horrors and improbable evocations descend. Foes are battered by alien tendrils and bombarded with projectiles hurled from the starless reaches of the void.Aspects
Boso Boso no Mi
ボソボソの実
“Murmur-Murmur Fruit”
The unusual power of this Devil Fruit allows Chaldea to conjure strange entities from the void of deepest space, creating strange pockets and portals through which all manner of cosmic creatures can reach into the world, realities overlapping with one another. She primarily controls these powers through various hand gestures, as if performing the somatic components of spells…

Tier ★ / 100 X-Poinz
Portal Manifestation
Through concentrating her abilities and performing a sequence of gestures, Chaldea can conjure forth three-dimensional (and usually spherical) anomalies where the deepest darkness of space seems to overlap with reality. These portals surround a chosen point and seem to envelop everything in their immediate vicinity, depending on size, but do not actually erase what is present, even when they seem to cut straight through things and shroud them in star-speckled darkness. Portals grant a form of access to whatever is summoned through it, but things originating from outside of the portals can never completely pass through into the unknown space beyond.
Reaching Abyss
Tier ★ / 100 X-Poinz
Tentacle Summoning
By opening dark portals into the deepest abyss of an otherworldly space, Chaldea can summon forth arrays of long, almost octopus-like tentacles with which to batter and bind foes, manipulate the environment, or defend herself from assault with. Tentacles may vary in size, but are often significantly stronger than most people.
Starfall
Tier ★ / 100 X-Poinz
Cosmic Projectile Generation
Through rifts created into the deepest void, Chaldea can call upon the denizens of the dark and starless abyss and have them toss debris from their vacuous abode. These projectiles seem to emerge from almost nothing, but typically include small fragments of asteroids, comets, and meteorites scooped up from dead star systems and tossed through a weightless realm. These projectiles strike with explosive force, burning up as they breach their portals.
Deep Space Gigantism
Tier ★ / 1 Aspect Voucher
Tentacle Gigantification
Certain supposed denizens of the deepest reaches of space are far more fearsome than others. Gigantic xenos may vastly dwarf what the human mind can possibly perceive. Some of Chaldea’s rifts allow for such entities to creep through, manifesting otherworldly appendages far larger in scale than those regularly conjured forth, more than large enough to smash a Giant should the need arise.
All-Consuming Void
Tier ★ / 1 Aspect Voucher
Maw Summoning
Denizens of the outer reaches aren’t all tentacles and slime! Certain entities appear to have their own mouths, though many of such gapes are monstrously lined with far too many teeth. Chaldea can bring forth such individuals to ravage and gnash those within the vicinity of her vorpal veils, although it should be noted that anything eaten by such entities inevitably gets ‘spat out’ when the portal closes, reappearing randomly in the portal’s previously occupied space as the power rejects foreign bodies from truly crossing into the void. The mouths themselves possess incredible bite force, able to crunch through stone.
Chthonic Consumption
Tier ★ / 1 Aspect Voucher
Vortex Creation
When Chaldea summons forth unusual mouths of alien teeth and impossible jaws, those very same beasts are more than readily capable of swallowing far more than can be reasonably chewed! These mays can create powerful suction akin to the vacuum of space, drawing in everything in their vicinity in a whirling and powerful vortex that cannot so readily be escaped.

NPC • Collective
A collection of individuals who have cast aside individuality in favour of identifying with the fathomless powers of unknowable gods. They once followed a man named Derleth until his passing on the island of Arkham, and have since taken in and accepted Chaldea as a worthy replacement charge, especially as she seems to be capable of calling forth the powers of the farthest voids. They can often be found in Miss Alhazred’s vicinity, wearing robes of nebulous purple and donning blank white masks etched with arcane sigils, with simple daggers and shortswords hidden beneath their garb for defence purposes. They seldom speak unless necessary, communicating with their sorceress typically through hand sign and gesture, and have a shared and uncanny habit of alternating between which one is speaking in the midst of their sentences…
- Unerring Madness

Pain Tolerance
Although they are not physically much tougher than regular humans tend to be, the Gatekeepers possess an abnormal mental fortitude that makes them almost as freakish. If injured or crippled, they will continue to operate to the best of their ability, as if each is simply a disposal glove to a greater manipulator’s hands. Pain seldom serves to hinder their endeavours and, even on the verge of death, a Gatekeeper will continue to serve without second thought.
All-Seeing Guardians
Tier ★ / 1 NPC Aspect Voucher
Reflexes
In a constant state of vigilance, the Gatekeepers’ awareness of their surroundings is heavily supported by just how swift they are in reacting to change. With barely a moment’s notice, they can spring into action in order to serve and defend their sorceress, and just as soon return to states of passive observation and inaction. Quite simply, they are so focused on their charge that they can react far faster than anyone would give them credit for, almost as if they are prepared for anything.
Tireless Servitors

Stamina
Existing to serve their sorceress in any way they can, the Gatekeepers seem to possess an uncanny amount of endurance. Though they are still very much mortal and require sleep and sustenance as any normal being might, they are able to resist the effects of fatigue for far longer than one might expect, having perhaps honed their stamina and longevity through strict dietary habits and careful rotations of rest, ensuring that enough are awake and active to keep Chaldea under their protection round the clock and then some.Techniques

Using “Chaldean Gate”, “Reaching Abyss”, “Deep Space Gigantism”
Performing a sequence of gestures with both hands, Chaldea opens a portal that envelops the area around her. From this portal emerge numerous tentacles, including much larger than normal versions, that sweep and smash and snare and crush at their conjurer’s command. Dofleini is derived from the specific name of the Giant Pacific Octopus.

Using “Chaldean Gate”, “All-Consuming Void”, “Chthonic Consumption”
Executing a sequence of somatics, Chaldea conjures forth a portal at a point within range (usually somewhere in the air above her foes), into which a large mouth lined with sharp and uneven teeth manifests. From there, the mouth begins to inhale with great force, creating a powerful vortex that threatens to suck up everything in the area. Anything drawn in is soon thereafter chomped or swallowed by the massive maw. Cirrothauma magna is a species of deep-sea cirrate octopus, also known as the Big-Eye Jellyhead.

Using “Chaldean Gate”, “Starfall”
Chaldea manifests a gateway in a higher position by performing a sequence of gestures, from which a volley of high velocity debris cast from the deepest void emerges and crashes down upon the area, creating powerful impacts that devastate the immediate vicinity. Origins, Birth & Early Years
Alhazred Chaldea was born in the nation of Arkham, unaffiliated with the World Government, and lived much of her life in the relatively comfort one would expect of a lower-middle class citizen. Arkham citizens were capable enough to defend themselves from piratical attacks, and connections with one of the Five Families of the West meant that few with underworld connections were ready to make any drastic moves. Kept in peace and protected by the chaos beyond its shores, such a nation was well guarded and allowed to deal with its own internal problems without risk of external repercussions.
For Chaldea, there wasn’t much of note to be aware of. Had fate left her to her own devices, she likely would’ve been able to place the education she received into potentially prosperous professions, guaranteeing herself a comfortable life in her homeland. There was always the likelihood she would be selected to marry into a prestigious family, of course, but that was just the way things worked in Arkham, and seldom was it ever problematic. And in times when problems did arise from these arranged marriages, well, let’s just say it was never wise to incite the ire of a family who entrusted yours with their daughter.
Knowledge of the Old Ones
As a young teen, Chaldea had already proven to be quite the academic sort of person, favouring the company of books to anything else. The archivists of the royal library had often seen her spend her time within its halls, perusing its publicly available records and knowledge while her parents worked and school was out. It was basically common knowledge that she was the studious sort and, in all fairness, there was probably very little that could change that.
It was on one of her few days exploring the shores of Arkham, an overcast day where beachgoers were few in number, that Chaldea would stumble upon something unusual. As violent waters clawed at rocky shores, their chill grasp dredged up treasures lost at sea, and one such treasure would present itself to Chaldea. A locked box whose frame had been busted by the jagged rocks. Without need of a key and a little curious about if it was worth anything, she checked the container’s innards, which had been kept mostly dry until today. A couple of books and a few trinkets were within. Chaldea kept the books, naturally. The trinkets were simply shown to her parents, either as gifts or to be pawned off for money of her own.
The books themselves were foreign, archaic, and interesting. One contained a person’s notes on what appeared to be an ancient and forgotten language, extremely detailed and thorough, while the other appeared to be a diary or journal—a traveller’s records of their exploits in foreign nations and various maps of countries that Chaldea had never even heard of. Needless to say, she would further peruse the library for more precise knowledge of these places, even asking the archivists themselves, though never seeing much of a reason to explain why she did so. Most assumed it was simply her hobbies and interests of the time.
Playthings of the Gods
As an unaffiliated nation, Arkham did not concern itself with the Celestial Dragons’ tyranny, and nobody would have expected the so-called World Nobles to take interest in such a place. But it was during Chaldea’s teenage years that she would experience just how horrible people could be. Arkham, at the whim of self-proclaimed gods of the world, would be chosen for the triennial Native Hunting Competition. Blockaded in its entirety by massive Marine warships and communications stifled, Arkham’s population was callously rounded up for what would be the most traumatic three weeks of Chaldea’s life.
Promised freedom if she could survive the duration, Chaldea and the population of Arkham—alongside several criminals—were let loose to run and hide as the savage World Nobles hunted them for sport. The lives of an entire population were worth little more than points on a scoreboard to the competitors. For three days, Chaldea managed to survive, managing to find her way back to her home and rescue the books she had treasured so much. But while she waited there for the best part of four days, hoping her parents would show, they never did. The worst had likely befallen them.
Over a week had passed. The corpses of innocent people lined the streets and wilds of Arkham, counted for their worth on the sinister scoreboard and incinerated like common waste. Chaldea had managed to scrounge bits of food from cupboards to survive this harsh time, but the scarcity of such morsels was a problem. To survive the last two weeks, she would need to quest outward from her hiding spot, further and further, and that was incredibly risky. And, unfortunately, her first trek would chance an encounter with another threat.
The Maiden & The Madman
Barely an hour into her careful advance through a desolate city, Miss Alhazred would run into a potential threat to her life, though not the type she expected, and that was what ultimately saved her. A tall and burly man who wore a target on his back, he clutched beneath his arm a small box as he fled pursuers, and when he stumbled upon a young girl in his path, he could have easily batted her aside or left her behind. He did not. Instead, he scooped her up and carried her with him, eventually losing the tailing hunters as he took refuge in a cave.
His name was Derleth, a criminal that had been wanted by the World Government for horrendous deeds, and he had been tossed onto Arkham as one of their ‘Rabbits’ as a chosen method of execution. However, he’d managed to do the unthinkable, stealing what would have been a prize given to the competition’s winner from right under the officials’ notice. By all rights, Derleth should have been dead. He was wounded, too, but there was nothing he could do about it. Chaldea, however, knew a bit of first aid and medical knowledge from her studies, and was at least able to stop him from bleeding out within the hour.
Derleth’s time was limited, regardless, but he’d managed to breach the communications of the World Navy and get a message out to his followers. A rescue was on the way, but he knew they wouldn’t make it in time to get him out. Chaldea didn’t understand exactly how anyone was going to breach the Marines’ blockade. Derleth didn’t explain, but he saw an innocent child becoming the victim of another one of the World Government’s cruel events as avoidable if he could help it. For another week, the two hid within the cave systems of Arkham, but Derleth was a big man and needed a lot of food, which posed problems.
Secrets & Murmurs
A fortnight passed. One week remained. Chaldea was hungry. Derleth would not last another week, if more than two days. During this time, he asked Chaldea if she could hear the voices. She could not. To Derleth, voices were everywhere. Everything spoke to him in some form or another. Perhaps delirium of infection and hunger was getting to him, but he’d heard these voices for much of his life, and now they were telling him to make sure that this girl was fed. And so, he offered her what he had in the box. An odd, green fruit.
Chaldea, trying to figure a way for Derleth to survive, split the fruit with him. She took a bite, as did he, but it tasted horrible. Derleth spat a chunk out, but Chaldea ended up swallowing the foul fruit instead, which would unwittingly change her life forever. Although she did not know it—and Derleth was too delirious to explain—she had eaten a Devil Fruit, cursing her forever as the sea’s most hated, but granting her peculiar powers.
Safety & Sorcery…
Whatever transpired off the coast of Arkham on the nineteenth day of the Native Hunting Competition remains a secret to all but those who witnessed it, as is typical for such an occasion, though it is theorised that a particular aquatic menace of a Sea King was responsible for the sinking of at least three heavy battleships. However, Alhazred Chaldea was able to escape the island and flee from the corruption, lucky enough to call herself a survivor of such an incident—an extreme rarity. The next years would be interesting ones, but what would perhaps be most unusual was the fact that Derleth’s allies were keen to call Chaldea their new hope.
Without the World Government knowing at all, the stars had aligned to make this woman their ultimate bane: A woman who could read a language they had been trying to bury and who had escaped an event that was often kept secret from the masses. Now, some years on, Chaldea practically leads a religious cult operating in the darkness, seeking ancient and forbidden knowledge under the cover of the stars, calling upon dwellers of distant stars to smite her foes and shield her followers…
