Gloomy Perfectionist

Quinn has always been hard on himself. The world is a glass half empty to him. If he messes up, it means that he has messed it up forever. There is no hope of fixing things. He would rather give up when things get too hard and find an easier way even if it compromises his goals and dreams.

Cautious

Where others might get caught up in lofty ambitions or sweet fantasies, Quinn fancies himself a realist. He lays out what it will take to achieve a goal and considers their feasibility. He doesn’t like to take risks with people or money and prefers to be prepared for the future.

Bitterly Envious

Very easily, Quinn will find himself jealous of people with more ambition than himself. He envies people that optimistically chase their dreams or people that have accomplished their goals. He so badly wants to have that drive, but can’t bring himself to take risks for it.

Afraid to Fail

It’s very hard for Quinn to get motivated. He considers taking risks to be foolish and doesn’t want to suffer failure. He doesn’t want to be embarrassed. He doesn’t want to fail. He’s afraid to fall and pick himself back up again. If he can’t get back up on his own, then it’s over. He doesn’t believe anyone would help him, and even if they did, he doesn’t want their pity.

Self-Loathing Coward

Quinn hates a lot of things. Failure. How he looks. The way he acts. How he treats his sister. Public embarrassment. But, the thing that he hates most is himself. He can’t stand how he’s so crippled and paralyzed by his own fears and insecurities. He can’t stand that he’s too afraid to actually fight for the things that he cares about. He hates that he’s a coward.

Quinn has a rather androgynous appearance. He’s a vampire squid, so the lower half of his body is all tentacles. These tentacles allow him to move around on land somewhat freely. His eyes constantly have bags under them. He tends to wear loose fitting clothes. Two black earrings hang from his slightly pointed ears.

The color of his skin, hair and eyes can all vary depending on Quinn’s mood. He defaults to a sea foam green color for his skin, making him look sickly and pale. His eyes default to a reddish purple. His hair is gray with a darker gray streak in it that he changes to be that color. Quinn is neither overtly feminine or masculine, though he was born as a man.

Description:

Fungal Garden is a fighting style that Quinn developed entirely out of necessity to survive amongst the monsters lurking in the Grand Line. Quinn primarily fights with his Devil Fruit, slowly gaining mastery of it as he uses it more and more. He’s focused on using spores and growing various sorts of fungi in cunning plans to give himself the upper hand against opponents well out of his league.

Quinn has a special affinity for detecting change in his environment. His body is extremely sensitive, and can detect the slightest change in pressure and currents, whether in the air or in water. He's so sensitive in fact that it causes him physical pain in the form of aches and a general feeling of being unwell. Quinn considers this ability more like a curse than a blessing, but it does allow him to predict changes in weather and the water before they happen.

Using the chromatophores in his skin and the amorphous properties of his skin, Quinn can alter the color and texture of his skin and hair. In this way, he can alter his own appearance to suit his needs. He can also secrete mucus and photophores, which make his mucus and him glow in the dark.

Intense cowardice makes Quinn able to move very quickly. He’d probably call it a necessary survival tactic rather than outright cowardice. He's faster and a lot harder to hit while moving around and can do things a lot quicker than someone else.

Noko Noko no Mi

The Noko Noko no Mi has a strange appearance. Aside from the customary swirls characteristic of devil fruits on its skin, it resembles the buddha hand fruit. The fruit is yellow and has several bumpy tendrils branching off of its base. It almost looks like a squid. When bitten into, the flesh melts in the mouth and bursts into the foul stench of rotting flesh. It tastes how it smells.

The user can produce fungal spores from their body in vast quantities. The spores can float through the air like a fine powder. The Devil Fruit user can create spore clouds in various shapes. These spores stick to wet surfaces and can be inhaled, which can lead to coughing and sneezing fits.

Quinn can produce spores that induce hallucinations in those that inhale them. This causes them to see the world in supersaturated colors as it bends and warps around them. They see in double, their vision getting hazy, which makes Quinn very difficult to track down.

Quinn is able to produce spores that make those that inhale them nauseous and dizzy, weakening their strength. Prolonged exposure can cause vomiting and extreme dehydration.

Allergenic Spores

Quinn is able to produce spores that make those that inhale them cough, sneeze, and endure fierce headaches. This slows opponents down in the hopes of allowing Quinn to deal with or run away with them. Continued exposure can cause shortness of breath and eventually can stop breathing entirely.

Quinn can produce spores that make those that inhale them bleed when they move at blinding speeds. The bleeding grows more profuse the more they move at high speeds, slowing them down and at times inhibiting their abilities.

Wherever the spores land, the devil fruit user can trigger them to germinate into various types of fungi almost instantly. The fungi can attach to most surfaces, including the user's own body. Removing the fungus is difficult as the mycelium of the fungus weaves itself through the material. The speed at which the fungus germinates depends purely on the Devil Fruit user’s skill.

Quinn has focused his abilities such that he can germinate fungi that are absolutely gigantic. Their size can range anywhere from their usual size in nature to the height of a giant! This allows Quinn a lot of versatility and the ability to create any size fungus to fit his needs at the time.

Pressurized Pilobolus

A specific type of fungus, Pilobolus is a long stalk with a large, fluid filled bulb at the end. The bulb fills with fluid so that pressure builds up behind a black sporangium until the sporangium fires off at blinding speed at its target, piercing defenses and tough materials like a cannonball.

Volatile Slime Mold

Exploding Slime

An explosive type of slime mold, Quinn’s slime mold is sticky and hard to get off once it is on its target. It has a timed explosion, heating up before it finally erupts into an explosive fireball. The timer for the mold may vary. The power of the explosion can severely damage structures and people.

Cordyceps Infection

Involuntary Control

While most forms of Cordyceps can only infect insects, Quinn has made a modified version that is able to infect most animals, including people, which attaches to its host’s head. This fungus responds to verbal commands from Quinn, forcing its host to obey. This is a very involuntary feeling for the host as they still have consciousness and can speak while the fungus.

Bouncy Mushroom Caps

Quinn can germinate mushrooms that have a super springy cap that bounces back like a rubber ball. This is able to be jumped on to bounce around a battlefield or used defensively to bounce attackers or projectiles away from whatever it is Quinn is trying to protect, whether it be himself or others.

Poppin’ Puffballs

Shockwave Generation

Making a special kind of puffball mushroom with high pressurized spores within it, Quinn can generate concussive shockwaves that bypass traditional forms of defense by popping them. These concussive blasts can range from small and concentrated to very large depending on the size of the puffball.

Huffin’ Puffballs

Floating Mushrooms

A different variant of puffballs, the Huffin’ Puffballs possess special spores that are lighter than air, allowing the mushroom to float and fly like a balloon on the breeze. If punctured, these mushrooms will deflate much akin to a balloon with a sudden burst of speed.

Description:

Quinn unleashes a blast of purple spores to cover a wide area. This serves a dual purpose of acting as a smokescreen for Quinn to reposition himself and cover the battlefield in spores that he can germinate into a variety of fungi to give him and his allies an advantage.

Name: Noxious Cloud

Description:

Quinn unleashes a blast of purple spores to cover a wide area. This cloud has a deadly combination of spores to many any enemy at least somewhat weaker so that Quinn can deal with them better. Hemorrhagic spores for those that move at blinding speed, allergenic spores to make them cough and wheeze and be slower in general, and nauseous spores to induce vomiting and sap their strength. Quinn doesn't like using this particular mix unless it is a matter of life or death.

Description:

By blasting an opponent with spores that they then inhale, Quinn germinates spores inside of his victim’s lungs. The spores bloom into death caps within the lungs, restricting breathing and causing intense coughing fits, eventually leading to suffocation if nothing is done.

Description:

Quinn germinates a fungus with a bulbous, fluid filled sac at the end with a dark cap made of hardened spores as big as a cannonball. Pressure builds up inside of the sac until the cap launches at an opponent at blinding speed, capable of piercing through armor and defenses.

Name: Poppin’ Puff Bomb

Description:

A specialized puffball mushroom created by Quinn, this puffball's cap is a little more durable than a normal puffball's cap in order to withstand the increased pressure of highly condensed spores within. When popped, the Puff Bomb creates a concussive shockwave of spores, capable of damaging sensitive internal organs like the ears and lungs.

Name: Huffin’ Puff Balloon

Description:

A specialized puffball mushroom created by Quinn, the spores and gas inside this puffball are lighter than air, allowing it to float around freely through the air. Mycelium dangle down from the main body of the puff balloon, allowing it to be tied onto things and lift them into the air. Instead of popping when the cap is ruptured, a hole forms and the spores and gas sputter out of it, pushing the balloon in the opposite direction and losing altitude.

Description:

By germinating his spores into slick, sticky, bright green slime mold, Quinn can slather surfaces or opponents with the stuff and cause them to explode. The explosion is timed, and the slime mold’s color changes from green to yellow to orange to red until finally exploding in a self ignited fireball.

Description:

Coating an opponent in spores, Quinn causes them to germinate into a specially powerful variant of the cordyceps fungus. Once the fungus takes hold, it overrides the opponent's nervous system, which allows Quinn to issue the fungus verbal commands, which it then makes its host obey. This effect lasts for several hours unless the fungus is removed from its victim or otherwise overcome by an especially strong willed person.

Description:

Germinating some spores, Quinn can create a mushroom with a bouncy cap. Quinn uses it to help himself and his allies bounce around a battlefield and get into advantageous positions at high speeds.

Description:

Quinn and his sister Gobbie were born in the Fishman District of Fishman island. They lived in a dark, gloomy neighborhood typically reserved for deep sea dwellers. Somehow, in this dark and gloomy atmosphere, Gobbie had a bright and happy personality. The two of them learned about the world above and the bright lights of the Sabaody Archipelago. One day, Gobbie decided that she was going to be an idol! A cute singer and dancer who would hold the hearts of millions. There was only one problem. She was ugly as sin.

Quinn scoffed at her and told Gobbie not to tell anyone else about her dream. Gobbie didn’t understand why and went about telling just about everyone that would listen. Unfortunately for her, their childhood friends bullied and made fun of her for her looks and ridiculous dreams. Quinn even joined in on the ridicule, which sent Gobbie away in tears. He felt guilty, but he tried to justify it to himself by telling himself that it was for her own good. He was jealous of her bright certainty and idealistic dreams.

As the years went by, Quinn grew ever more conflicted about his lack of direction in life and his dissatisfaction with how he looked. At his parents’ prodding, he eventually found a job as a cosmetologist long after Gobbie had found yet another passion in ship building. He was jealous, but he tried to be nicer and reconnect. Gobbie welcomed him with open arms and crushing hugs. The sudden forgiveness after years of distance put Quinn off. He felt even worse for being jealous of her and holding his own grudges for so long.

Frustrated by Gobbie’s constant gestures of affection, Quinn eventually snapped at her. He immediately regretted his words, but his pride wouldn’t let him apologize. He swam off out onto the seafloor to cool off, chiding himself mentally for yelling at Gobbie. He wallowed in self loathing for a while before stumbling across a shipwreck. He assumed it must have been one of the ships that had attempted the journey to Fishman Island and failed.

Exploring the interior, Quinn stumbled across a treasure chest, which he managed to work open with a bar of metal lying around. Inside was a strange looking fruit. Curious, Quinn tried the fruit only to gag and writhe at its taste. In the next moment, he felt all of his energy being sapped from his body. He fell onto the ground, unable to move. He panicked, thinking that he had been poisoned and would die within a few minutes. But, as the hours waxed on, Quinn slowly realized that whatever that fruit had done, it had paralyzed him. He was helpless. He couldn’t move. He was hungry. Quinn worried that he might starve before whatever poison was in that fruit took him.

As night drew close, Quinn closed his eyes and tried to get some sleep. He had fitful dreams about starving to death. Waking up from one of these, Quinn almost felt like throwing up, but a sound gave him hope. It was his sister’s voice calling out for him. Tears welled up in his eyes. She had come looking for him despite the way he had treated her. Why? He just didn’t understand her. Quinn spent a long minute wondering if he deserved to be saved, but as Gobbie’s voice started to fade into the distance, he panicked and called out for her.

Gobbie found Quinn and took him back to the Fishman District, cradled in her arms as he explained that he couldn’t move. Something in Gobbie’s head clicked, and she took him to Fishman Island and out of the water. After a moment or two, Quinn felt his strength return to him. Confused and more than a little scared, Quinn and Gobbie went to see a doctor who informed Quinn about his newfound condition. Despite being told that there was no cure, Quinn was determined to rid himself of the devil inside of him. So, with Gobbie adamantly insisting on helping, the two set out from their home and into the wider world.

• Round-Up on Rondure! Spores & Sports, Slaves & Saves!
  
  Scarlette and company arrive on the island of Rondure, soon splitting up in search of a viable ship to continue their journey, as well as to gather supplies. They encounter Quinn and his sister, Gobbie, but situations soon start to take a turn when Polo and his group take Gobbie and some of Scarlette’s siblings as potential slaves to sell on, prompting a rescue mission by Scarlette and Quinn!
• Business & Pleasure! A Mock Town Mystery!
  
  As Scarlette, Quinn, and the rest of the siblings arrive at Mock Town, they encounter an equally curious gang consisting of Lilin, Tally, and the ‘Phantom Thief’. After a brief bit of banter, chaos ensues as Scarlette and Lilin measure one another, forcing a conflict that devastates a portion of the usually peaceful (if rambunctious) Mock Town. Roped in, Loomis attempts to pursue the ‘Phantom Thief’, while Tally faces off against the curious combination of Quinn and Sadako. As things escalate, however, Scarlette’s focus is clearly elsewhere, prompting Lilin to make a reluctant decision in order to work it to her favour…
• The Slice of Life! Siblings at Sea!
  
  Sailing across the seas of the Grand Line, the siblings get used to the presence of their latest additions. Torrance proposes a game, which many join, though some with reluctance. However, Lilin’s tampering pushes a lot of the focus onto Quinn, increasing his discomfort as the Smoking Devil tries to get a rise out of him. Beyond that, Scarlette makes an important decision…
