The salty sea air greeted Garrett as he stepped off the boat onto the dock. He took off his hat, revealing his silver hair, and ran a hand through it as he looked up at the city before him. It was much fancier looking than the Marine bases or dingy little towns that he’d become accustomed to when hunting criminals. He could practically smell the wine and perfume wafting off the city. He sighed, tilting his head down to cram the hat back on his head.
“Ho… it’s going to be one of those jobs, isn’t it?”
He sighed to himself, shaking his head wearily. These sorts of posh jobs were almost always more trouble than they were worth. The odd one was an easy cushy position, but more than often, they were headaches. Garrett set off through the cobbled streets. They were absolutely bustling with people from all walks of life, though it certainly seemed to lean more on the wealthy side of life.
He pulled out the letter that had been penned on fine parchment and sealed with an ink stamp, detailing instructions on how to get to his employer’s home. It was quite the trek away from the city and up into the mountains. Following the cobbled road that extended far out even into the countryside, Garrett came upon a golden gate and stone fence. Beyond it, he could see vineyards stretching up to a vast manor and beyond into the foothills of the mountains.
“This better be worth it.”
Opening the gate and following the path up toward the manor, Garrett took another look at the letter. Whatever this job was about, it was about protecting some high value item. The letter also detailed that there would be at least one other bounty hunter or mercenary taking part. Garrett hoped that meant that there was a decent squad of veterans. Garrett knocked on the large wooden doors of the manor and stepped back as they swung open.
“Good! You’ve finally arrived!”
Before him stood an incredibly anxious looking nobleman. Garrett’s red eyes glanced past the man to take in the grand front hall complete with grand staircase and chandelier over the entryway. As well as the little girl standing in the hall. Was that his daughter? She wasn’t dressed like the nobleman though.
“...Yeah.”
