Hey, folks!
Guess what? I’m here to talk about a couple of things—a system change that I’m sure everyone will love and another that’s in the works! So, I’ll start with what’s already in play!
X-Poinz Costs: Equipment
We’ve reduced the X-Poinz costs of Equipment! That’s pretty much all there is to say about it! Rank 1 Equipment now costs just 75 XPz, Rank 2 down to 200, and all further Ranks have been reduced by consecutive amounts to make them much more accessible. The information in The Armory has already been updated to reflect these changes! This does not affect Rebate gained from Equipment, so you’re also now gaining roughly 66% of an item’s cost instead of the previously used 50%.
Basically, from Rank 3 onwards, Equipment costs blew so far out of proportion that they were taking massive chunks out of characters’ X-Poinz pools for minimal benefit. The changes make a small difference early on, but will especially impact the middle and later stages of characters who are definitely focused on their gear! Nothing else has changed about Equipment, either, so enjoy your refunds!
Ships: Characters In Their Own
The hefty chunk of this announcement! Ships as they are now suffer a strange problem that—and I’ll admit it—took me a long while to figure out. Ships all have a personal identity, each one on site being unique and having a personality of its own, but the mechanical individuality of each ship is minimal if not completely irrelevant. The current system just doesn’t support the amount of freedom they really need to set sail on their own journeys!
So, we’re in the process of reviewing and redesigning how ships work. First and foremost, we’ll be reducing the costs of ships as well as removing the link between a ship’s size and Class—a basic Class “D” ship will set you back 300 X-Poinz, down from its current 500. This makes them more accessible as a whole to crews, and gives individual characters an easier time grabbing themselves a personalised ship if they want it!
Second, ships will be gaining their own Traits system! That means that a ship can be made to be faster, more durable, more manoeuvrable, or even larger than other ships! Giving ships Traits unlocks their mechanical individuality—the thing they’ve so far lacked—and thus lets you actually incorporate ideas into roleplay at sea. Suddenly, ships become just like a character in their own right, with their own strengths and weaknesses.
Think of it this way: Ships are essentially a special sort of NPC—they’ll have Traits, a Fighting Style, Aspects, and even their own equipment called Assets. Vessels like the Thousand Sunny are normal sized vessels with a lot going for them, such as being made of Adam Wood (a potential Legendary Trait) or having its Soldier Dock System (a potential Aspect).
So, that’s all I wanted to say for now! Look forward to Ship changes when we figure them out!
