Hi, folks!
I’m back again to deliver some news regarding ongoing updates to Bon Voyage’s systems. This time, we’ve been hard at work discussing a complete re-evaluation of how our Techniques system works, which was a weird one! So, let’s keep it brief to start: We’re adjusting the criteria for certain Ranks and types of Techniques to make things a little cleaner, as well as introducing some quality of life changes as a result of this, plus new options to spruce up Fighting Styles.
So, here’s what’s coming!
Technique Ranks
Right now, there’s some ambiguity around what constitutes a Rank 1 or Rank 2 Technique, so we’re fine-tuning the definitions. Rank 1 Techniques are going to be the basic bread-and-butter (as they are now) and follow the same sort of trend as they do now, with a few exceptions: Any offensive, defensive, or other special move that isn’t purely for utility (or joke purposes) is considered Rank 1 — these rely on skill, Fighting Style principles, Traits, and the Qualities of Equipment. Rank 2 and higher Techniques require Aspects to achieve with the introduction of these changes, so there’s no more weird Techniques floating around that are Rank 2 without an attached Aspect (these will become R1). Note: It doesn’t matter how many things contribute to a single Technique, so you’ll never have to worry about non-Aspect sources increasing the Rank above 1.
An Eye on Rokushiki
Rokushiki, due to its special nature, will remain the exception to this rule, but we’re at least going to be a little more stringent on who/what qualifies for ‘clones’ of these top secret skills. Rokushiki is meant to be special, so its accessibility is going to be scrutinised a little more: If your Fighting Style’s principles and focuses support a particular type of Rokushiki style (such as Soru for a speed-based style), then you’ll generally be good to go. On a similar note to the one above, any special Equipment or supernatural abilities (Devil Fruits) that facilitate Rokushiki-like abilities can allow these sorts of things as Rank 1 Techniques.
Aspect-like Traits & Qualities
Because of the changes implemented, we’re also trimming some of the fat off races who gain access to special powers. Minks with their Electro, Lunarian hybrids with their Flame, and Giants with their Colossal Might can all implement these as they would any other Trait, allowing them as Rank 1 Techniques (instead of Rank 2). These races already suffer negative Traits that can’t be removed through normal means, so the added cost of additional X-Poinz just to access these powers seemed a little overboard. Similarly, basic inoffensive uses of these powers won’t cost a thing, such as a Mink giving a playful shock.
Fighting Style Advancements
We previously introduced the Advancement system for Devil Fruit FiSts — Zoans, Logia, and Special Paramecia — to further enhance their more passive capabilities rather than consuming Aspect chances. We’re now bringing that same principle into play for general Fighting Styles to give those characters that specialise in a singular style a bit of a boost. By paying up to the required thresholds, you gain access to these Advancements, which allow you to develop an additional Aspect for your associated FiSt, with the first becoming available at “C” Class, the second at “A” Class, and a final one at “S” Class, for a potential maximum of eight Aspects! Wow!
A few more additions are on their way in relation to these changes — possible Advancements for the regular but wild Paramecia bunch are being discussed — so you’ll have more to look forward to. In the meantime, we’ll be adjusting places around the site to suit these new rulings.
