As Ridley was lost in his thoughts, Blair called out for him loudly and suddenly. It startled Ridley, making his eyes widen as he looked up at Blair with a hand over his heart. He stared at Blair for a long moment, processing why the man in front of him looked so unhappy. It hit him a moment later that he’d been surprised without blacking out like he had before. He patted himself, noticing the piece of candy that he’d been holding.
“Oh! Sorry, Blair, haha,” Ridley chuckled, a little nervously, dropping the candy into Blair’s open hand, “There you go, buddy.”
With Blair probably distracted for a moment, Ridley took a deep breath and checked himself over. Why hadn’t another episode been triggered? He remembered being surprised by presumably Homer, but that had been a tense situation. Maybe… stress was a factor? Did he need to keep himself relaxed as well as calm? He rubbed his chin, his brow furrowing with concern. Maybe he needed to look into natural remedies for anxiety. He didn’t want anything that would dull his senses too much. He had to look after Blair. Hm. Maybe he should invest in some chocolates for himself. Or tea, but he wasn’t the most fond of tea. Hot cocoa then. Blair would probably like that too, come to think of it.
“Hmm…”
Ridley dug around in the box, lifting up Blair’s silver suit to reveal a small stack of money. He’d gotten a little bit from this venture, but they’d need enough to get a more permanent place to stay. If he kept working at it, they might have enough in a year… Ridley sighed, scratching his head. Bounty hunting was a way to get rich quickly, but it was also very dangerous and attracted attention. Ridley didn’t fancy himself much a fighter, and he certainly didn’t want to put himself in situations where he could potentially black out and kill someone.
Maybe it was better to just keep moving for the time being. A stable environment would be best to treat everyone, but with Moreau potentially pursuing them that might not be feasible unless they bought a boat. Shrugging to himself, Ridley slid back down and glanced over at Blair, holding up the cards.
“Ready for more, Blair?”
