Edith #10
It was with reluctant gusto that Wieliczka Edith swallowed her worries and abandoned her hidey hole, forcing herself down the tunnel towards the corner down which everyone seemed to have vanished. Another peek, this time more carefully, revealed an odd view. The man with blue hair stood some distance away, close to four other individuals, one of which was readily recognisable as the messenger — a lithe man doubled over and catching his breath.“B— But, Cap—?!”
“Mal, you fool,” another male voice resonated, coarse and sharp, from a man whose silhouette her cerulean eyes could only just make out in the torch light. Large, with prickly hair and a hat of some kind, his features were mostly obscured by distance and shade more than a facet of poor lighting. “Jaspier will take care of it,” he snarled. “That bloody cannon of his has enough power to blow a hole in the side of a World Navy Battleship! Even if Giants did exist, he’ll handle it!”Kaboom…!
“See? Now then! Tourmin, Citri,” the Captain continued, this time his voice alight with the intonations of greed — a tone all too familiar to Miss Wieliczka’s ears. Eyes had adjusted at this point, drawing clarity, with the larger figure seeming to direct his words to two less than presentable individuals. One held a box in his hands, arms outstretched in offering, but it was the Captain himself who seemed to hold the glinting silver key. The sound of the lock being released echoed gently, like a pin dropping in the quiet suspense…—— OUTSIDE ——“Argh! The ship?!”
“Who the heck are you?!”
“Look out!”
Discord on the air was apparent for many a reason, for while some of the crew scrambled in the presence of an unusual blond character, others ducked and dived wherever they could to evade the sweeping hand of the Giantess. More still had given up on the ship entirely, splashing about in the water as they fled the now heavily damaged vessel — water dirtied by displaced coastline and splintered debris was already starting to breach the hull in force. Those that hadn’t abandoned it would soon be forced to.“Now,” the colossus had questioned:
“Where’s your Captain…?”“We ain’t tellin’ ya!”
“He’s in the caves!” came the nearly unanimous reply from several crewmen, cowering in the shadow of one Tia Dreki as they hurriedly dragged themselves onto the ashen sands of Dermit’s Landing. Firearms that were once little more than peashooters had been rendered useless by waterlogging, black powder sodden as the mens’ spirits. Jaspier’s face said it all.“You useless f*¢<ing scallywags! Oi,” he barked:
“You’ve got your answer! Now put me down!”—— CAVERNS ——
“Harr—harr! Looks like ol’ Toothless Jack’s treasure was the real deal,” the Captain laughed heartily. Edith’s eyes could now clearly discern his features — heavy and keen, swarthy, with a prickly beard of dark purple hair and dressed in what many would have perhaps considered standard pirate captain’s attire. But the young woman’s eyes were aiming to get a better look at whatever was in the box.“No way…”
“Is that…?”
“Hmph! Don’t tell me you two actually believe the stories,” the other man — the swordsman — interjected with a look of disdain, only to avert his eyes when the two he had questioned looked to him. It was at that moment that the little punk had realised, in her attempt to get a better view, her position had become more obvious. “I thought so,” he grunted, wasting minimal time before advancing upon the girl at pace. Ede was too slow, much too so in comparison, for he was before her in seconds.
“Gck,” she exhaled, though even that very motion was halted as he hoisted her off her feet. Fingers had a firm, nearly suffocating grasp about her neck. All she could do was stare down at him, her own grip upon his arm to try and alleviate the stranglehold. A desperate swing of her kanabō was, much to her dismay, equally slow and predictable, and met little more than the back of his sword as he parried the strike.“Excellent work, Turk!”“Thank you, Captain Gate,” the swordsman replied:
“What do you wish me to do with this brat?”“Lemme…! Go…!”
“Keep a hold of her for now… We have an announcement to make,” Gate grunted, walking past with a closed box in hand, though there was little else she could do to escape Turk’s grasp as he knocked her weapon from her grasp and carried her along in the Captain’s wake. The others followed, one picking up her weapon, as they walked back towards the cave’s entrance…{Post Synopsis:}
Edith spies upon the likes of Captain Gate and his lackeys as they deliver a box and open it, but Edith is caught by Turk. Meanwhile, Jaspier struggles against Tia and Newton.
