Landmarks
- Flint Town: The main town on Flint Island, home to hundreds of hardy folk who live on this woodland island. A town of mainly log-crafted buildings, Flint Town is the only major settlement on the island, possessing its own small port, out of which they mainly see vessels coming in to purchase lumber to transport to other islands and travelers who wish to brave the Grand Line. The town is small and generally unfriendly towards visitors. It's inhabitants live a self-sufficient lifestyle, held together by tradition and a small town feel.
- Hop Frog’s Cave: In the hills north of Flint Town is a large cave entrance, accessed from a clearing in the woods atop a plateau in the hilly section of the island. This cave is known in town to be the home of the man-eating Hop Frog, the deity of the island which they must send human sacrifices to to keep appeased.
- Flint Forest: Surrounding Flint Town and covering the majority of the island is the Flint Forest. A large sprawling forest with a frankly surprising variety of trees of both the deciduous and coniferous types, it is a blessing for the town in both the wood it provides and the hardy chert goats who live in its wilderness.
- The Grove: By following the tunnel at the back of Hop Frog’s Cave, one will find the Grove, a black market operation run in a giant cavern underneath the island. Due to the island entrance being guarded by a supposed deity, the only true entrance is underwater - a secret tunnel beneath the waves that was discovered centuries ago, which only those who can withstand the pressures of the deep and those with a coated vessel can access. Due to these facts, the Grove is a perfect black market location, making it one of the most popular stops for the criminal underworld in the first half of the Grand Line.
Fauna
- Giant Cave Frogs: Living in the caves of Flint Island’s hilly forests north of Flint Town, the giant cave frogs grow to the size of horses. Large and powerful, they can be real workhorses if trained properly - otherwise, they're nothing more than oversized amphibians.
- Chert Goats: Large goats that are native to the forests around Flint Town. With their wide, handlebar-like horns and dark black, mop-like hair, one would be excused for mistaking them for some sort of pygmy yaks! While they don't have many spectacular qualities they are often domesticated and used about Flint Town to haul carts and move supplies, though they are rarely used as mounts.
Culture
- Industry: Due to the dense forests of the island and the fact that the only major settlement on the island is fairly young, Flint Town is a town built around its logging industry. However, this is about the only thing the island actually puts out - lumber is its only real export. In recent years, there has been a movement on the island to bring shipbuilding and carpentry to the island, but there has not been much headway in these developments as of yet.
History
- Flint Island was an untouched island for centuries, and nature was allowed to thrive, untainted by the hands of mankind. How it managed to avoid settlement for as long as it did is still a mystery. In truth, the island had long been a relay point for various underground organizations who could utilize the underwater and underground passages to do their dealings out of sight of the World Government.
- 78 years ago, the island was properly settled in the hopes of creating a thriving logging town to supply nearby islands with lumber from the island’s dense forests. While this hope succeeded, the settlement never grew much beyond that; there just was never much interest in moving out to the island, and so the population grew slowly. As a result, the island has remained mostly off of the World Government’s radar, not even worth the trouble of giving the inhabitants their attention.
- 5 years ago, a larger group called the Black Coven revitalized the criminal underground of the island by excavating the underground tunnels and creating a true black market in the caves. The population of the island was deceived by the members of this organization into believing that one of the giant cave frogs - a truly colossal, elephant-sized specimen - was a deity through the use of the membership’s abilities. Following this, the people of Flint Island were forced to send up tributes and sacrifices to this Hop God in order to ensure the ongoing prosperity of their home.
