Mambo
Epithet:– N/A
Height:– 4’00” (approx. 122cm)
Build:– Sleek, Strong
Age:– 2
Gender:– Male (♂)
Race:– Snake
Occupation:– None
Bounty/Rank:– 0
Class:– E
Allied With:– Shakarri, Montbretia
Personality:– Montbretia’s serpentine companion is quite the calm, collected example of an ophidian. Clever but cool, Mambo’s not one to act aggressively or territorially unless he feels himself or his partner are under extreme duress. Extremely tolerant of humans, he’s practically domesticated, but he’s no obedient slave to his owner. He’s still independent – he’d much rather hunt food than be fed, willingly turning down offerings unless he too has partaken in its capture.
Appearance:– A sturdy, sleek snake over a metre in length, Mambo most heavily resembles venomous tree-dwellers such as the Black Mamba, but has vivid colouration in his scales. A rich green base and light yellow underbelly are marked with variable stripes of minty blue, while his eyes – quite unusually for any serpent – are also a pale, watery blue.
Traits
- Keen Taste
NPC Animal Starter Trait #1
As a snake, Mambo’s senses are honed differently compared to that of a human’s. Though he has good eyesight and the snakes’ unusual “sixth sense” of being able to detect heat signatures, Mambo’s sharpest sense is his sense of taste. He’s extremely good at tracking prey based on airborne flavours and smells left behind, even over long distances, which means he always manages to find his way back to Monty thanks to his familiarity with the child’s odd flavour.- Serpentine Grace
NPC Animal Starter Trait #2
Lacking legs doesn’t mean lacking agility. Able to strike and slither with incredible speed when needed, Mambo’s swiftness surpasses that of most humans. Provided he actually wants to move quickly, which doesn’t happen very often, he can lash out to strike or snare creatures and objects with incredible grace and speed.- Exotherm
NPC Animal Negative Trait
Snakes are “cold-blooded” and Mambo is no exception. Requiring external factors to warm and cool his body, Mambo’s greatest weaknesses are extremes of climate and weather – the blazing sun without sign of shade is just as exhausting upon his form as frigid, dark nights. Extremes of heat and cold practically incapacitate him, though humidity isn’t too much of a bother.
Fighting Style
Mambo’s style of combat is simplistic. He fights to defend himself, delivering dry bites as warnings, or even using his venom if he feels its needed. Most of Mambo’s combat is guided by Montbretia’s commands – the child’s words are words he trusts and understands, essentially forming himself into an additional limb as needed.
