“Eh?” Pluto blinked, dumbfounded by the girl’s reaction. Repeat it? No, something wasn’t right here. Her attitude and tone of voice were clearly different than before. And here he thought that tea was supposed to make someone calmer, but this tea-drinking girl seemed irritated at him.
What did he do wrong? Did he execute his moves so poorly that she lost faith in him? Did he hold back too much strength?
“D-Did... I... do something wrong?” he asked with a sudden lack of confidence in himself. He sliced the hunk of wood; wasn’t that normal? This was certainly nothing compared to slicing up steal with nothing but his bare claws. Cutting woods should be within the realm of normal human capabilities. So, if he didn’t exceed her expectation, then he must have gone too far below her expectations.
Ah wow... her standards are really... high.
He dropped his sword onto the ground and hung his head low. Maybe he simply didn’t have enough talent for swordsmanship. Perhaps martial art was simply all he was good at.
No... wait... if this isn’t good enough, then no marine lackey ought to be able to satisfy her! Just what more does she want from me? If I use any more power and speed, then it’ll be obvious that I have superhuman abilities.
However, if wood was the only material around for him to slice up and he was able to do just that, there wasn’t any harder material around here for him to test on. How was he supposed to satisfy her?
Judging from the officer’s reaction, the closest thing he could compare it to would be when his little sister pouts and gives him the cold shoulder. The reason would be whenever she didn’t get to hug him, but that made absolutely no sense in this context. Then again..., that soldier from only earlier tried to hug from behind. Was hugging that common of a social convention in society?
Oh dear... Rebecca is going to hate me for not being able to hug me for three months straight. I hope she’s alright.
”I guess, if you think you got it... then we can head to the pool now.”
The word ‘pool’ caused his heart to skip a beat. What did she mean ‘if you think you got it’? She must have lost all hope with him ever learning swordsmanship to the point that they might as well move on to something.
Wow... even a panda had more faith in me.
Maru, the Panda was the one who taught him the basics of martial arts in such a way that the boy could customize the principles and skills to eventually create his own martial art style for himself.
After a moment of depression, his eyes narrowed with determination, “Sorry..., I guess I still haven’t live up to your standards. In that case..., it seems... I would need more time to figure this out.” With great intensity, he stared at the cutlass on the ground. What did he do wrong? He thought he did it fairly well for a beginner, and even if he did it atrociously bad, his attacks should have at least served their intended purpose of lopping off human limbs and bodies.
There must be something he glossed over. This must be the result of substituting real swordsmanship skills with strength and speed. Perhaps doing those three-hundred reps would have led him closer to the truth. But since his tutor probably thought ‘wow, three hundred reps, and he can’t even get it right?’, she gave up on him in this area.
But still, swordsmanship was more relatable to martial arts than sniping. The fact that he couldn’t get this right kind of stings.
It took him weeks and months of learn the basics of martial arts; perhaps he shouldn't think that swordsmanship could be attained with just a matter of minutes. But darn..., he thought for sure that martial art skills could transfer over.
