A mild, nauseating wooziness befell her, but soon the rest of it came to be. This was not just some brief bout of daze caused by standing up too quickly, but something far more bizarre – something beyond nature’s craft. Scarlette felt herself weakening at the knees, shivering as a curious chill overtook her form. Her hands turned from raw to fair; she could only imagine that her face too had turned a ghastly shade of pale. It was not the shift in complexion that bothered her so much as what it signified, for a sensation that she knew to be a bad sign was taking hold.
She was bleeding.
But from where…? Miss Grimm-Rosa questioned in silence, noting the lack of a warming, wet sensation upon her back where the burning line had been etched into her flesh. And then it was, looking to the floor as her balance faltered so slightly, that realisation took hold. Dark chocolate hues widened in surprise as she bore witness to the birth of something of ruddy silhouette. Like a Demon escaping the abyss, a mass of carmine ooze seeped from the blackened yet luminous scar upon the stone, frothing unnervingly as it seemed to boil like water and swarm like fire ants over an invader’s body.
I’m bleeding from… that rift? That was not some supernatural substance that was being granted human form. That sickly sweet syrup that pooled and forged itself into flowing flesh was her blood. Her heart pounded in her chest as panic tried to dig its claws into her psyche. Awe and a strange cocktail of familiarity worked in tandem to resist hysteria’s bitter clutches. Despite the fatal amount of crimson being spilled into the world, the dark-haired damsel felt strangely stable. Her gaze was firmly fixed upon the entity as its final throes of formation took place, turning an incomprehensible mass of scarlet slime into something more human. A little girl about a metre tall with cropped hair, chubby façade and wide dark eyes stood now over the jagged rend.“Ah– Anna…,” Scarlette whimpered:
“Papa, look! It’s Anna! She–!”Splack!
“Aaaaaargh!” the young woman screeched in agony. A hellish inferno burst to life within her chest. Claret scattered across the chamber like a flurry of rose petals, spattering across the floor and walls as the humanoid horror erupted. Maxwell Grimm stood close, bringing his foot down slowly. One swift kick had send the diminutive demon packing, but for what reason? Amidst the searing torture, it was all the vexed vixen could do to find answers. Had she not done what her father wanted of her? Or, far worse, had she done something unexpected and undesirable? Betraying Papa was a great sin, so she believed. All of his wisdom and ideology – an utmost truth – had been entrusted to her. Had she spat upon such trust? How sacrilegious of her.“Never do that again,” Father ordered:
“Do I make myself perfectly clear?”“Argh… Ah– I’m sorry…”
“Apologise not to me,” he responded, flitting from military dominance to fatherly intonation, “but to Annabelle. Bringing forth such creatures in that form are inviting the Wardens to work their wicked magic – without care they will snatch her pure, innocent soul from the Otherworld and entomb it within. I’ve already liberated her from this prison once, so let us not undo progress, okay?”“Gh– Okay, Papa…”“Hmph,” Maxwell grunted, looking at his daughter:
“You’re covered in blood. Let’s get you cleaned up…”-~-
“Gck… Hah… Uff,” were the weak coughs and exhalations from Scarlette’s mouth. Against all odds, the Offspring Woman had somehow survived an encounter against not one, but four extremely capable and superhuman combatants. Though, the fact that death’s sweetened embrace had not taken her was as much of a disappointment as it was a blessing. Lips curled into a near unnoticeable scowl as she observed the rugged, damp plain, head rested uncomfortably upon the rock. At least she assumed it was uncomfortable. Her senses were so greatly dulled that she felt practically weightless, yet at the same time she just could not muster the energy to do any more than laboured breath and slow blink.
An amputated octopus arm lay a few feet from her.
My whole body is numb… I can’t even move, the stationary siren noted: I’m covered in blood, I think? I can’t tell whether it’s hot or cold. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this weak – not since Papa trained me to use my Homunculi. But, I don’t think anything’s ever hurt as much, either. What can I do? I guess I’ll just have to wait until Pluto and Ann– …Rebecca come and find me… Maybe Papa was right about keeping her away from this world…{OOC}
