Mission # 1: The Gap of Power! [Mandercune/Kiwi]

Mission #1

In Roguetown there is a pirate gang that has taken up shop in a local bar. They seem like they are up to no good? How will your character take to running into this rowdy bunch?

In the East Blue, there existed an island known as Loguetown, a landmark known throughout all the pirates in the seas. Those riffraff with the ambition to cross the Reverse Mountain and into the Grand Line would commonly come here to stock up on supplies. That was what this town became known as, a place where pirates could settle temporarily to gather supplies before leaving. However, one of such crews had been causing some problems. They were revered as the Glutton Pirates, a crew known for their tendencies to eat vast quantities of food without paying. Only today, the captain was bit more ambitious as he and his fellow crewmates decided to forcefully occupy an entire bar all for themselves. Usual business ended in a halt. The barkeeper that owned the place was kicked out and was left with a threat.

A towering man had casted his large, rotund shadow over the shorter, muscular man who was sitting on the paved street just outside of the entrance to his own pub, “If you call for the marines, we’ll burn down your entire business! Ya’ got that!? We’ll only be using this place for tonight. We’ll be off to the Grand Line by tomorrow at sunrise.”

Genthus, the Glutton

Bounty: 15, 000, 000 beri

Grinding his own teeth, sweat dripped across the barkeeper’s face and neck as he clambered to his feet and walked away. He could already hear those hooligans cheering and shouting in mischief and delight which did nothing but fuse the anger and frustration towards his own helplessness. If he called for the marines’ assistance, his own store would be burned down. Was there nothing he can do about it?

Meanwhile on this evening before sunset...  

Among the streets, a black-haired adolescent boy with piercing violet eyes treaded with shopping bags in each hand. To his flank was a much shorter girl with long dark hair and violet eyes who was being accompanied by her older brother. As a skilled cook that handles their meals, she was much required in today’s shopping as they stock up on their ingredients.

Rebecca had a constant, genuine grin on her face, always pouring out a positive aura around her. “Are you excited for dinner, Pluto? I want to try something new! Don’t worry, I know you like spicy food!”

Beside her was someone wearing a dark vest, trouser, and boots with metallic armory around his forearms and shins. Despite his slender, average-looking build, he had dedicated much of his time for the protection of his little sister and wielded tremendously capability to do his job as her bodyguard. His cold, expressionless eyes made his face unreadable, but the little sister had spent enough time with him to read him like a book.

“Is that so?” He said emotionlessly with no enthusiasm at all.

“Come on, why do you have to be like that? You’re a lot more yourself when it’s just the two of us?” She criticized. Her brother wasn’t always like this, but whenever they were outside –especially on an unfamiliar island-, he would always wear this façade. This was not his true self but a means to hide himself from the enemies spawned from his over caution.

“Don’t you know about this island? It’s a landmark for many pirates before reaching the Grand Line. I can’t feel safe knowing that there might be such people around me.”

“Oh please~! The pirates should be more scared of you, not the other way around,” the younger one had complete and utter faith in him when it comes to combat.

The boy sighed, “I’ve told you before to not underestimate others. There will always be a bigger fish lurking around.”

Yes… and you ARE that bigger fish! Rebecca giggled at the thought.

Louguetown was famously known as the town with which Gol D. Roger was born and the town in which he was executed. The irony of this was not lost on Genma and as he strolled into the town center where the execution itself took place he couldn't help but crack a smile at the thought of it all. He certainly wasn't anti-Roger but irony was something he greatly appreciated. Gol D. Roger changed the world whether non-pirates wanted to admit it or not and Genma knew that as a fact thanks to his father's teaching. Genma had respect for the man and what he did but that was a long time ago now, the world was changing but something things...not so much. 

Genma stood in the town's center for a while, taking it all in and deftly bending his body around the throngs of people who busily bumped into one another and shouted loudly. He should have expected to see as much in a place like this but he couldn't deny the nagging annoyance that had been bubbling to the surface within him. He would have been able to do some real reflection here were it not for the noise and confusion of the crowds. He finally gave up and with a disappointing shake of his head looked one last time to the front of plaza, then turned and headed down one of the alley ways in town. 

As he did, he realized that the crowds had all but dissipated in the narrow areas between the buildings of the town despite their being filled with barrels, crates and other important items. The realization dawned on him suddenly and he scolded himself. There had to have been a not-so-freindly lot or two in the nooks and crannies of the town like this. He quickly reached into his pack and whipped out a green pirate's long-jacket and draped it over his body with a deep breath. At worst he would be attacked by pirates but at best he would be confused for a drunk one. He may be unknown in the area but he knew how to act like a pirate if need be. 

He took two turns, a left then a right, using the loudest noise as a guide. As he was about to exit the narrow alleys and come back into the populated part of town again, he felt the grip of a hand on his right arm. The panic deep down in him came up and dissipated instantly. It wasn't his false bandage made arm and that worked to his benefit. He had almost no notoriety as a bounty hunter but advertising he had a fake limb was giving away too much information. He calmly turned his head in the direction of the hand. 

'Huh?' 

He said, looking the man dead in the eyes, his own staring lazily at the man's. 

'What are you doing!?' 

Genma's mind quickly came up with an explanation, true or not. 

'Going for a drink at the lively bar across the street...' 

He pointed across the street at the rowdy bar where it looked as though someone was being berated. The man, obviously a local and not a pirate as Genma had initially assumed looked at him worriedly and shook his head. 

'Go somewhere else! Tonight Captain Genthus of the Glutton Pirates moved in! He even told the owner he would burn down the entire block if they called the marines! They will kill anyone they don't know who tries to come in for a drink they will!' 

Genma's eyes opened for a moment as if a switch had been turned then they fell dull and sleepy again. He responded a moment later. 

'Oh? The Glutton Pirates? I believe some of those men have bounties...' 

The man's eyes widened and he responded instantly. 

'Of course they do! Genthus and his first and second mates are ruthless!' 

Genma nodded to the man and without another word moved into the street, not knowing exactly what he planned to do.

In the peaceful zones of multistory buildings with flat rooftops, the siblings made their way towards an apartment room that they rented. Up the flight of stairs and to the left, the younger one inserted the key and unlocked the door to their room. As expected, it wasn’t particularly spacious inside, but it was more welcoming than the rooms found in regular ships. After Pluto dropped the weight of the goods on the kitchen table, his little sister prepared to place the proper ingredients inside the fridge.

“Ah!” The little one noticed, “We forgot the red wine!” Ever since she scrutinized a chef poured wine in a hot, sizzling pan, she had always found it a peculiar choice of ingredient. It was used in the most unexpected of dishes that would taste delicious. As such, she had plans to experiment with it for her own cooking.

“Eh? Why would you need red wine?” Pluto asked inquisitively. To him, that was an awfully random ingredient.

“For the sauce, I wanted to combine red wine with soy sauce at the bottom of the saucepan. Then I would wait until it starts bubbling, and add one teaspoon of butter. A lot of chefs use red wine for cooking; it’s nothing unusual,” the younger one explained her intentions. Her eyes gazed at the kitchen floor, deep in thought, “Hmm… which store did we see today would sell red wine?”

“None of the vendors we went to today seemed to have had any,” he recollected the images in his mind with his arms crossed in front of his chest.

“Then, I’ll go get a bottle before it gets dark,” she treaded for the door only to have her path blocked by the older one. The girl smirked as she tilted her head, knowing full well that this would happen.

“In that case, I’ll go get it myself,” Pluto volunteered for the task, not wanting her to be out in the dark streets. He was protective of her as always.

“Aw…,” the youth wrapped her arms around his waist as she buried her face into him.
He immediately lurched back, “Eh? What are you doing?” Nothing part of their conversation should have led to this.

“I’m hugging you!” She squeezed even tauter. It was nothing new; she did this every day just to mess with him, knowing that he is shy when receiving affection.

For every breath that he took, he felt the arms around him getting even tighter and tighter like a squeeze of a snake coiling around its prey. There were many things that he could escape from, but this wasn’t one of them, mainly due to her persistence.

“Okay… you can let go of me now…,” He tried to walk away from her, only ending up dragging her along with him.

“Can I come with you?” She asked gently.

“No!” He answered sternly only to feel an even tighter squeeze in response. “GAH! I can’t breathe!” Just as he ribs were on the verge of being crushed, Rebecca loosened and hopped back, “Okay, I’ll continue this when you get back.”

“I don’t get back then…,” he muttered.

“No! You must come back! If you don’t, I’ll you hunt down and hug you!” She threatened.

“That’s awful! Fine, I’ll come back,” he said unenthusiastically. However, he didn’t doubt that she would try to find him on her own if he didn’t come back on time, not because she worried about him but because she would feel lonely being in a room all by herself.

With that, he exited through the door.
