His heart skipped a beat at the realization that he has been discovered. But how? He made no noise whatsoever. He kept a quiet breath and a calm emotional state. He should be completely out of this man’s vision. Despite all that, how was he detected by someone from the inside?
With a raised nonexistent eye brow, the bat couldn’t comprehend what just happened. This didn’t make any sense. This shouldn’t be happening.
Nevertheless, he transitioned into his response rather smoothly, “Ho? You know that I’m here?” Despite currently being in his animal form, his voice remained roughly the same as his human self.
Calm and casual, he reassured the marine captain’s speculations, “Indeed, I did say I won’t get involved, and I did just that. You’re the one who interrupted in an area outside of your jurisdiction and claimed the boy as your prey. I allowed you to get what you want without any resistance; I didn’t hinder you from reaching your personal goal at all. As for why I’m here, it’s exactly as you said. You’re interested and curious about this case, aren’t you? I can relate to that. I find this interesting as well.”
He then clarified his reasons of being here in more detail –at least, his original intention-, “Although, when I say that I’m interested, I’m referring to how Kyou would get himself out of this predicament. From what you said at the restaurant, it’d seem that you allowed him to escape before, am I wrong? I suppose the reason that I’m here is assure myself that this prey is truly under your custody. If he escapes a second time, I want to be nearby to stop him.”
More accurately, he was here in case Kyou escapes a third time whereas the first time could be traced back all the way back to the failed attempt at executing him. How the marines could fail at execution and record it as a success was beyond him.
”I wonder if your brother is going to be okay,” Ara spoke out of concern. Her eyes were gazing into the distant as if in deep thought.
“Hmm? Are you worried about him?” Rebecca had never heard anyone else worry about him besides herself.
Shifting her glance to look at the youth straight in the eyes, she explained, “Well…, it’s just that… he’s followed the marines, right? That man who shot the boy earlier…, he seems to be quite strong.”
“Don’t worry, my brother is also strong,” the little one retorted in a carefree, optimistic manner.
“I don’t doubt you. But, how much do you think he was holding back during the fight that took place here?” Surely, the little sister would know more about what Pluto can and cannot do.
“How much?” Rebecca tilted her head with an uncertain look. “Hmm…, I don’t know. He has so much power that I probably can’t tell if his strength gets doubled or gets cut in half.” To her, it was like dealing with an insurmountably large number. At a certain point, her mind couldn’t truly picture such a large number when all she has to compare it to was her own very small number.
