Melosa's self-confident counterattack was over as soon as it had come about. With just one mere facial expression, the Stardust Bandit managed to terrify her.
Seconds ago, the rage inside the idol could be made responsible for the utter lack of understanding that the pirate was playing her. Anger did this to one's mind, Mel had experienced that first-hand before. It could defy fear and push you to unbelievable limits, but it could also cloud your judgement, make you charge straight into your doom.
However, smiling at the prospect of getting your throat cut any moment now, was not something a sane person did, not even this enraged. Unless you were absolutely sure you weren't in any danger...
As Sparkles stepped forward, the pirate princess felt the strong urge to back away. She didn't really want to kill Miss Evershine after all. But at the same time she realised she had to remain steadfast, so she kept where she was. Yet, after the next step, her threatening firm look turned into a face of absolute horror. Wide green eyes witnessed Hanakanzashi piercing the Mink's skin and flesh. Any moment now blood should have spilled put like a fountain and the poor lass drop down, gargling blood. Instead, the intense heat returned. Frozen in terror, the swordswoman could just stare into the abyss that was Sparkles' glaring fangs.
And what the wolfswoman was saying only confirmed her fears. She was a star. Made out of them. The cute outside she was just a vessel for the force inside. A force that could be projected outside and detonate an explosion of fire and death just like the Queen's bees had felt it. How was she suppose to fight against a literal celestial body?
The horror threatened to drown the noble girl. By now, after just a few seconds, her sword's handle was starting to heat up. Gasping, she stumbled backwards, dragging the blade sideways out of the star's neck. Only a legendary weapons like this one could survive even this short time inside the bounty hunters body. She wanted to say something, speak up against her foe or at least apologise for her ignorance. Still, sounds of shocks escaped her, gasps and choked out random syllables, a scared whimper. Cowering and begging seemed not that farfetched all of the sudden... As if that wasnt enough, the singer she had just disarmed was turning her arms into brutal drills of plasma. A moment later, the helpless puppy was turned into a monster beyond the Queen's wildest nightmares.
'The lower bounties she played with'. Previously more in shock about such a power even existing, Melosa's mind realised what all of this meant: Sparkles would start to roast her alive soon. And soon after, her entire crew. And there was nothing she could do to prevent it.
There was not even time left to fear her fate. Another onslaught began, this time of a variety she couldn't just block with mere metal.
"Heavenly Drills! Solar Beam!"
Each time, Mel would barely save her feet by leaping back as far as possible.
"D-dance for you!?" It was a poor attempt at saving face. Stuttering and still staring horrified at what was happening before her "L-like hell!"
Desperately the pirate princess tried to figure out a way to strike back, hell at least defend herself. Where was all the courage, all the pride she had gathered up throughout the journey up to this point?
Sweat was getting in her left eye, brought forth by the heat, forcing her to close it. There wasn't even a smidge second to wipe it away. If this kept going even a minute longer, the noble would break down. Without any other options, Melosa saw just one possible way out. If the rabid star could not be beaten, she could only be lead as far away from her friends as possible. Queen B. Melosa would have to turn around and run for her live.
"I'd like that promised head start now!" she yelled over the sounds of sizzling plasma. It was pointless to wait for a response though. Without wasting another second, she turned around on the spot and began sprinting.
