Thanks to a generous loan from EriChar, I'm finally getting started on a captain/crew idea I've had on my mind for a few weeks now, and I wanted to know if anyone would be interested in joining me.

The captain leans chaotic good, and the crew's major plots probably will as well, but I'm open to crewmates of any alignment. I'm less interested in your character's skills and more interested in what your character brings to the table in terms of story and character interaction, so if there's a weird job you've been wanting to play, this might be a good opportunity for it. (We can always fill the "major" positions with NPCs if we need to.) The captain is fairly combat focused and will be starting at C rank, so we're probably good on muscle for now, but if you want to play another fighter I certainly don't mind.

The captain is still a WIP, but his chief quality is the extremely high value he places on all life: human, plant, mosquito...etc. Your character obviously doesn't have to share this, but I'd like crewmates who can react to it in a meaningful fashion. Ideally, I'd like to have a few crewmates who clash with it...maybe they think he's naive (he is), maybe they're much more willing to kill, or maybe they just don't value their own lives as much as they should.

Just a word of caution, though, that I prefer individual recruitment plots over open recruitment threads, so depending on how many people are interested it may be a bit before you're picked up.

If you're interested but don't have a character or an idea for one, I'm more than happy to help you brainstorm.

The captain's WIP is here. The positions of doctor and navigator are filled. I wouldn't mind picking up one or two others right now, but after that I might hold off until the crew at least enters Grand Line.

While he's not a pirate, Egon could potentially be turned. Based on what you mentioned in terms of his view on life, that value might make the idea of defecting more possible. Otherwise, I could make 'em sorta like Franky was? Start 'em out as a foe that fights, helps, or other stuff before joining up... that sorta thing.

Like Franky and Usopp, Egon is more of the "Inventor" role for groups due to making his own weaponry and such. If he were to join, though, I could equally bring along a doctor/cybernetic specialist/his aide Ida. The two of them combined could serve as doctors (Ida has experience with medicine and a background in it, while Egon could devise technology and gear to help), while further down the line Egon could technically become a shipwright properly.

While Ida is more or less an improvised combatant like Usopp, Egon is much more akin to the "Franky" arc-style of having weaponry but being capable with his hands. Being at D means that he's equally capable of filling a role early along (if needed) and his experience with the Marines and being raised on a futuristic island makes him a prime candidate for bridging the gap and assisting in the transition to more advanced technology.

TLDR: This crew sounds cool, but Egon is the only character that is free AND capable of making an interesting addition to yer group as well as giving him more development room. Of course, having an Ex-Marine on the crew could also inspire some rivalries and gateways for the crew to overcome (such as trusting the guy with MARINE branded on his back)... AKA, fun stuff.

One thing I forgot to mention is that I'm undecided on what part of the world I want to start the crew in. With what I had in mind for the captain's history, it's not really necessary (or convenient) for the crew to form near his home island, so I was thinking of having him be born in Paradise but starting in one of the Blues. But for continuity's sake, I'd rather not hop around the Blues or repeatedly go between GL and the Blues. So if starting in a certain area is important to you, let me know. Otherwise, we'll figure it out later.

blackhanddave Hm, I don't want to say no entirely, but looking at his profile, I'm having trouble seeing what he'd contribute plot-wise? He's not a bad character, but he doesn't have any traits that seem like they could lead to any especially interesting interactions with the captain, and since his goal is mostly just to get stronger, I'm afraid he'd end up kind of just...hanging out, you know? Maybe sell me on it a little bit? If you have any questions about what I have in mind for the captain or crew, let me know.

Roin Egon looks great, and I think we could set up an interesting dynamic by having him act as an antagonist for a bit. The captain is probably going to lean fairly anti-WG due to their various tendencies to value certain lives over others, so I think that could lead to some interesting interactions between the characters. I'd be fine with him bringing Ida along too, but I'd probably only have her fill the role of primary doctor if there are no PCs interested in it.

I'll throw Markov van Riese, in the ring. He's more a return to more traditional pirate, the sea bandit with a loose set of ethics, but can be slotted into lawful good role easily enough, while not someone you want in a tight situation at your back but as another ship hand he's just fine.
