She was awake long before the sun could blossom her petals of light. Upon looking up towards the heavens, the sky dimly lit the earth below in a tint of greyish blue. Standing on the deck of an anchored ship, the little girl stayed close to the black-haired boy with the same enigmatic violet hued eyes. Memories of the past flashed before her eyes. No matter how many times she thought about it, she couldn’t soak in the truth about her brother. Was he a human or a monster? Whatever he was, it didn’t change the fact that she still loved him. Her feelings didn’t even so much as quiver when witnessing the incredulous abilities that had been kept hidden from her for so long. How long did he possess such powers? The level of control and meticulous maneuvers that her brother managed to pull off indicated that he had them before the two of them even met each other. Even to this day, there were many things about this adolescent that even his little sister didn’t know.
Not just him, Scarlette had one too, a devil fruit power. Both of their powers were nothing alike; each and one of them –assuming there were more- had different traits about them. No two of those cursed fruits were the same. Her brother had already taught her about the existence of such magical things in this world that sounded very much like a legend or a myth, but she never would have thought that there would be two cursed and blessed individuals being so close to her. Simply one of them would be unbelievable, but two of them would simply had to force her to believe that all the strange occurrences weren’t merely dreams from last night.
At Dojo Island, Rebecca had watched him fight against some of the top students, and presumably, her brother had also taken down that armored pirate at Amino Island. Compared to those two instances, the young man that stood before her eyes had grown tremendously stronger in such a short period of time. Once she reflected on the past, the bigger pictured appeared as if the two of them were on an adventure together, having traveled to many different islands that they had never even heard of. She wasn't quite sure if Scarlette intended to stay with them permanently; perhaps once that scythe-wielding lady found some other purpose in life, then that dame may depart and walk her own path.
Now that his little sister knew, mixed feelings stirred in his heart. A part of him felt relieved that he now long had to hide this secret from her, but the other part of him felt afraid that this would shatter the trust that she had for him. “Sorry Rebecca, your older brother is a freak,” his voice ended the silence abruptly, sounding aloof yet apologetic.
The short, dark-haired girl strode closer towards him, shaking her head, “Is that why you didn’t tell me about your transformations before? I think you actually looked really cool. And your cat ears made you look cuter!”
Pluto tensed his body upon hearing that last statement from her. “THEY AREN’T CAT EARS!” He jerked around and growled at her before suddenly cringing in pain. The wounds, bruises, and soreness from his last engagement with the Berserker had him currently on recovery. It would still take some time before his body was back to its peak condition.
“Really? They sure looked like cat ears,” she crossed her arms as if in disbelief. Those large, pointed, cup-shaped ears on top of her brother head had seemed to match with the ears of a kitty. After leaning the side of her face against the boy’s arm, her cheek stroked against him repeatedly, and then she purred just to annoy him.
Lurching away, the brother was weirded out by the little one’s sudden change in behavior. Suddenly, a heavy force crashed into him without warning, causing his legs to stumble back. Tipping backwards, he landed on his back with his arms pinned against his sides by the embracing wrapping of the girl’s arms around him. Rebecca, who pounced on him, simply lied on top with her eyes closed shut. An unpleasant wave of soreness spread throughout his body, releasing further pain and discomfort that he had to suppress. Being tackled in this manner wasn’t out of the ordinary although he would always rebel against it, so it wouldn’t become a habit. Too bad, this incorrigible trait had been ingrained inside his girl for the past two years.
His head leaned up, straining his neck, but then he gave in, laying the back of his skull down against the wooden surface. The worries that once stirred inside his heart faded away after knowing that Rebecca hadn’t changed a bit despite knowing that he was a Devil Fruit user. She didn’t hate him as he anticipated. Her reactions had always been uncertain to him, but if the girl could still hurl herself at him like this, then everything was just fine between them.
