It was a rather rare and unusual feeling for him but seeing Erwyn's reaction made Kyou regret his words strongly. Had he knew how much they would dampen the other man's spirit, he would have simply agreed with him. However it was too late now and all he could do was nod his head affirmatively and keep it to himself that he did though that they could have hardly done worse and that he prefered it if the fishmen didn't remember him at all. They weren't likely to keep him in fond memories after all that had happened.
But they were still alive, despite having so many chances to die... and in the pinkhead's book, that counted for something. So maybe his friend wasn't wrong after all.
"Good luck with your treasure hunt. And the same goes for you...about the help I mean. If you need a hand with something... as long as it's nothing criminal like murder you can count on me. And don't worry about the money. I'm not really going to sell out a friend for money." he admitted.
Now that they were actually saying goodbye he was feeling rather sad about it. Would they ever meet again? The sea was so fast, it was hard to tell.
But at least there was a chance, no matter how small. After losing companions in battles and to betrayal, having something like a normal farewell wasn't that bad. It gave him something to look forward to.
"You too, take care."
With nothing else to say, Kyou took Erwyns hand and was surprised to find himself in an embrace which he, after a moment of hesitance, returned.
And then they both went their own ways.
Kyou found Otto on the "Saru", talking with his shipwright friend and so he simply leaned against the railing and waited for them to finish their talk, while he was absorbed in thoughts of his own.
It was already getting dark when they made their way back to Otto's dojo, where Kyou got to pick up his Den Den Mushi Letty, who was still on the same place where he had left her in the morning, and Yuushin the turtle, who had strayed into the nearby forest but hadn't gone far.
And then there was another goodbye to say, this time to Otto and his Gorilla family.
Completely exhausted he arrived to the place where he had left his little ramshackle boat and nearly collapsed into it. He pulled the strap of his bag over his head (provisionally mended with three safety pins), put it on his side and took the oar.
"Piah."
Startled Kyou nearly dropped into the water as the fluffy white furball made itself noticed with a squeak. In the darkness, he hadn't seen it at all.
"You again!"
The Pikt Archipelago had proven to be rather full of haggis wherever he went, and yet there was no doubt that this little guy was the same haggis as before.
The one who had saved his life by distracting the pirate.
"Uhm... do you want something?" he asked it hesitantly.
"Piiiiiii!"
The haggi stood up on its hind legs and flailed his arms enthusiastically. Though he didn't understood what it was saying it seemed to Kyou that the animal was pointing to the sea and at him a few times, before quieting down and giving him an expectant look.
"You uhm... want to come with me?"
It was the only thing he could think off as an interpretation, even though he couldn't fathom why the furry ball would want to do that.
"Pii!" the haggis sounded an affirmative.
Kyou gave it a long and thoughtful look. He still wasn't sure what to think of the furry native animals, but he was still owing big time to this one.
"Okay. I guess you can come with me if you want. Do you have a name?" he wanted to know.
The haggis titled its head and gave him a questioning look.
"How then about... Snowdrop? OUCH! OW! Oi! No reason to bite me. I get it, I get it.. no cutesy names... uhmm... how bout Chuck?"
This time the furball stayed silent for a while and looked as if it considered the name, but in the end it shook its head.
"Maybe Jackie.. or Bruce..."
"Pi!"
"Bruce? You like Bruce? ... Then Bruce it will be, I guess."
He picked up his oar again and pushed the boat away from she shore.
"Well... Welcome to the team Bruce. Don't come to complain to me if you start to regret your decision later on."
