The Day After TomorrowMission #149
THUNK!
The large vessel kept bashing into large chunks of ice, spraying freezing sea water up into the air as it approached the mostly frozen land in front. The wind was howling and the sky was extremely overcast. No hint of the sun was visible through the cloud cover. Though it wasn't picking up yet, snow had begun to fall a half an hour or so prior once the vessel had been in the general vicinity.
The sharp red tipped needle of the log pose was pointed dead ahead, the contraption sitting in a small wooden cubby designed specifically to keep it housed right next to the helm. It was part of a helpful little stand that maps could also be attached to as well with metal clips to keep them from flying away. The shipwright that had thought that far ahead surely was a genius.
A pair of gloved hands moved the helm slightly to the left and kept it steady as the Star Chaser's rudder took them on a much more smooth course headed toward what appeared to be a small docking area. Blue eyes squinted to see better as the snow began to pick up lowering the visibility drastically. Somehow, miraculously, the ship was still brought in smoothly after their initial bumps in the road, so to speak, and one of the other crew members lowered the sails completely as they coasted to a stop.
Rubbing his hands together, the bundled up figure walked across the deck and worked to lower the walking plank after he had dropped anchor. Once that task was finished, he pulled down the grey scarf that had been covering his mouth and lifted an arm to wave over at one of the crew mates before he walked down the ramp, taking a rope along to tie the vessel to the dock as well, ensuring that their boat would not float away with the strong gusts of wind and tide.
His outfit was nice and toasty as it consisted of not only the scarf and gloves, but a matching grey beanie, a darker grey wind breaker jacket over top of two layers of shirts and long cream colored pants. He could barely even feel any of the cold wind as he jumped back on board the vessel.
"Hey, Arelya, looks like there's actually a pretty big settlement here. Maybe we can get some good supplies!" the young man announced as he removed the beanie from on top of his head, revealing a jumble of red hair that he ran a gloved hand through to tame back down. For a moment his bangs were even sticking upright until he fixed it. Perhaps caused by static cling? "Also, this is the place you said that was rumored to have all sorts of crazy inventions left behind by Vegapunk, right?"
A knowing smile showed up on Kane's face as he imagined the excitement that was coursing through his Nakama right now. Though the Captain had absolutely no skills regarding anything with technology, more apt to break something than to either fix it or make something imaginative, the green haired Skypiean was strongly gifted in that way. The vessel they were standing on had telltale signs of that scattered all around, in fact.
For now, since Karakuri Island was rumored to also have a weak, yet still existent Marine presence, the Star Chaser itself had been cleared of any visible signs of them having a Jolly Roger. While it was probably underhanded, it saved them from having to drop the ship off on the other side and having to trek across the winter wasteland.
But, just in case the crew had already decided that most of the members would stay on board since the stop here was supposed to be relatively easy. Just a quick in and out. No fuss, no muss. Of course, a lot of things for the Hoshi Pirates were supposed to go that way and had a way of escalating quickly...
Still, the Captain waved off those thoughts with a shake of his head and told himself this wasn't going to be one of those times.
"Well, we should probably get going before it gets darker. The temperature is sure to drop with the sun setting. I'd probably be fine but..." he commented, shrugging his shoulders as if to say that the cold was absolutely no big deal for him which was mostly true. Some snow had gathered on his shoulders but as he rubbed his hands together and the visible skin on his face glowered with a slight golden hue, the snow melted and the water ran off of his jacket, dripping and soaking into the wooden deck.
Turning around, the confident Captain began to walk back down the ramp again, this time grabbing a mostly empty bag that was positioned near the railing and shifting it onto his back. He glanced behind him just to make sure that his partner in action was following.
