Walking in line with Basil, Syphalia stayed as true as she could to the middle of the alleyway. To most she was rather tomboyish but even Syphalia had her minimum levels of cleanliness that she preferred. Staring at the walls and ground of the alleyway she tried to stay as centered as possible. The gunk, garbage, rust, and moss coated the alleyway giving it a rather putrid smell that overwhelmed the senses. It had that musty and humid feeling, the alley was warm which only helped to give the alley a disgusting feel to it.
Basil began to talk in a low voice, it was quiet but clear easy to understand. He seemed to come to to the same conclusions that she had earlier. The way the alley was positioned and its usefulness seemed odd. It seemed too perfect but on the other hand since the town was designed that way it made no sense that it would be a trap or something. His analysis of the situation was fairly spot-on she had little more to add if anything. However he seemed to be a little cautious about making a strong statement about their safety. Not that she could blame him probability was good for making a guess but it was never a certain thing.
He paused slightly allowing Syphalia to make a comment. "The marines that came here, yeah probably as reinforcements. That would make the most sense ... Though you know it would be funny if they were here to depose the ... former captain." It was a stronger statement made with more confidence than Basil had been willing to make. The second statement was more of a joke, it seemed rather unlikely given the townspeople's testimony.
She talked as she walked and soon enough they made it to a small street on the other side of the alley. From the alley looking down the street she could see the water of the port at the end of the street. The street wasn't very wide and the buildings on its side blocked out much of the view of the sky. It was pretty simple now to see who was at the end of the street. From there she couldn't see anyone in the small street which made her more comfortable with the plan. Smiling she stepped out of the alley into the small street.
It was a welcome change from the more disgusting feeling of the alley. While it was a small street, the sea breeze was cleaning out any bad smells. The smell of the sea was refreshing as was the view. Continuing down the street she listened as Basil began to talk again. His face was rather stoic as he commented on possible escape routes. That escape route being the climb to the roof to make a quick getaway to the port. He seemed concerned about the possibility of actually fighting the marines. Syphalia knew that it was probably for the best that they didn't but she also wanted to alleviate that concern.
"Its probably not a big concern even if we do find the marines. This is the East Blue in any case, we are unlikely to meet any marines stronger than that commander. " She smiled. The end was nigh.
