Appleton was more or less resemblance of the standard Flat Farm Island settlement. Named for its primary crop as per the island's tradition, the town was situated along the side of a two mile long apple orchard, within sight of the island's coast. To be specific, most of the "town" was actually the farmhouses and processing centers - there was a central cluster of buildings that held most of the businesses, and was where the weekly farmer's market was set up.
Today, a market day, was unusual for a couple reasons. For one, the weather had expected to be clear and sunny, and yet the sun was currently obscured by a decently thick layer of gray clouds. Not that such an unexpected change in weather was at all unheard of, it simply didn't happen too often, and was something that stuck in the minds of Appleton's people, something to make this day stand out from the rest of the ones in their fairly monotonous lives.
The other reason was the far more memorable of the two - a stranger had come to their little town. He was hardly more than a boy, yet he carried a blade on his back. There was a hard look in his eyes, something that made even the adults of the town somewhat nervous to meet them. With that, in addition to his silent manner, the townsfolk were somewhat afraid he would prove to be a criminal of some sort. However, despite their fears, all he did was buy a basket of apples, and then lean against the tavern's wall, seemingly just staring into the sky. Though he still drew some odd looks, after a while he was no longer the center of attention and people went on with their day.
Myone bit into one of the apples, enjoying the rich flavor. They were definitely high-quality. Unfortunately, they seemed to be the most interesting thing about this town. This entire island was dull. They had only recently joined under the protection of the World Government as a way of deterring pirate attacks, and it seemed to have been quite successful. He'd been on this island two days and not a single town had been at all interesting to him, even their capital. It was just a load of farms and windmills. This was a land of peace. That may have appealed to some people, but for Myone, such places were enough to bore him out of his mind. It was clear he wasn't going to find what he was looking for here. Time to go.
That did present a problem, though...The ship he'd stowed away on to arrive here would've left by now. Without a true port town, it would be hard to find a place where he could reliably secure himself some transport. Then again, maybe there was a port. He didn't know much about this island before he arrived, so it couldn't hurt to ask around a little. Scooping up his basket, Myone walked back over to the stand where he'd bought it. The man behind the counter seemed to tense a bit at his approach. "Y-yes? Anything else?"
"Do you know of a place where I could find a ship on this island?"
Looking somewhat relieved, the man nodded. "Oh yes. There's a shipyard quite close to here, only about a twenty minute walk up the north road. It's called the Bulwark Shipyard - but, I, erm, I would be careful if I were you."
The young swordsman quirked his head to the side. "Careful of what?"
"It's just - that place is a bit of a roughhouse. Only last month, a group of pirates were shipwrecked further up the coast and tried to steal a boat from them. It...didn't end well. The owner's a giant of a man. I think he must be about fifteen feet tall! You better watch yourself around them."
"Hrm." Walking away without another word, Myone immediately set out onto the north path, biting into another apple. A shipyard owned by a massive man, whose shipwrights fought off thieves with such gusto that the townsfolk pitied the thieves? Now THAT...sounded interesting.
