Kane sat down opposite Arelya, an uneasy silence echoing between them for a time before a waitress approached, ready to take their orders. Kane merely ordered a drink for himself and, with reassurance from the red-headed man, Arelya ordered a milky coffee for herself. Mere moments after the waitress departed, Arelya's ears caught the sound of something outside; too far away to make out, but noticeable.
Something Arelya had had to adjust to on the Blue Sea was the level of sound. She was usually quite reclusive, liking noise only when she was making it, and the constant hubbub of the island seemed too much like a headache-inducing cacophony. Her companion had clearly heard something too, assuring her that it was not just a trick of the ear. The waitress soon returned with their drinks; an ice water for him, a milky coffee for her.
"So, what's your name? I can't really properly thank you without knowing who you are," the redhead asked. For a moment she hesitated, but before Arelya could even answer him, a triad of people burst through the door; the two men propping themselves against the door to barricade it as the woman fell to her knees, panting.
A moment passed before the redhead stood to ask what the problem was. The panicked voices of the two men and the woman were certainly a testament to the chaos that was ensuing beyond the barricaded doors of the diner. Arelya sat, sipping her coffee, quietly observing as the conversation continued. It was blatantly obvious that nobody knew what was happening, herself included, and that made her uneasy.
Smoke, huh? Must have something to do with what's going on. Arelya thought to herself, eyes on Kane as he crossed to the door. He was certainly a bold man, in Arelya's eyes. Who in their right mind would risk their life for the sake of others? Was he just being curious? Either way, his actions tugged on her heartstrings. Her parents had given their lives for her sake, and she herself was easily as curious about this ordeal as he was.
"Wait," Arelya called, slamming her coffee down on the table and standing, before meandering around the diner towards Kane. "I'm coming with you." As if the shocked expressions the redhead had received weren't already enough, the green-haired Skypiean received even more crazy looks. The overall feel of the eyes upon them practically screamed the words, "are you two nuts!?".
