Mirra’s cheeks flushed a bit when she realized her friends were so close. She rubbed the back of her head awkwardly, shaking her redish-orange locks. It wasn’t like the huntress was used to working with people. It had been a year since she had met the displaced noble and helped him fight for his cause, and the village they had met in, when the dreaded pirates attacked. They had not been like some of the more friendly, or foolish. Pirates she had met. They had been an army seeking blood for a man that could have bathed in it without flinching. The villain had escaped them and they had went their separate ways. Mirra had hoped one of them might bring him to justice one day and that she might once again meet with the former duke. He had been a good, kind man, and his ‘pirate’ status was little more than a false title granted out of people’s need to point fingers and place blame.
“Sorry about that, I guess I’m really tired. Normally I would have been more aware of your position.”
The huntress nodded a reply when Suriko suggested the girls get some rest. However, she wondered why he, too, wasn’t tired. Perhaps it was because he had not been up all night and day chasing the panda man like they had been. It didn’t really matter as long as he could still swing his sword skillfully and he wasn’t doing himself any harm. After all, their goal was within sight and as soon as they were fighting fit they would be on their way to meet the man that called himself ‘Maru the Panda’. What kind of guy dressed up like a panda anyway? It was such a silly thing to dress as if you wanted to be a thief or a pirate or any imposing kind of person.
“Yeah, I’ll show Mari where my room is and we’ll get some rest. Don’t push yourself if you need rest, too. Even a swordsman needs to recharge once in a while. If you need to find us, ask the man who rented me the room. He‘s a good guy and knows we will be expecting you.”
With a wave, she ambled her way up to the room. Mirra mumbled something to the barman as she climbed the stairs. He must have understood her because she could faintly hear him say something like ‘will do’. After fumbling with the door she managed to get it open. Her eyes had become blurry with the promise of sleep and she was blinking a lot.
“You take the bed. I’ll take the chair.”
With that, Mirra slumped into a chair, put her feet up, and fell asleep. Her dreams were filled with pandas and were almost nightmare like. The creatures were walking in circles around the field of her vision, taking strange shapes, and defying gravity in many unusual and impossible ways. Hours later, she woke with a start. Standing and stretching, Mirra tried to yawn quietly, still aware she was sharing the room. The huntress quietly made her way into the bathroom to fix her hair and change clothes. After she finished, she left for the first floor where the pub was located. A few drunks were in tables near the walls, working on their fourth and fifth glasses. She sat at the bar and greeted the barman.
“As soon as she wakes up and the swordsman returns we will be on our way to catch the jerk that did this.”
“It sounded like you were having a nightmare up there or something, you alright there lass?”
“I was that loud? Pfft, curse that panda and his ruddy thievery. When I get my hands on him he will pay with more than beri.”
“Don’t do anything you’ll regret. You don’t look much like a killer to me.”
“We’ll see. Get me some fruit juice or something.”
“Aye.”
The barman quickly brought Mirra a glass of orange juice and she stared at it a moment. It had been a while since she had fresh fruit juice. She started slowly, with one sip, then another, and then a gulp. It was indeed as good as she remembered. She would have to have a juice with the others when they caught the panda man.
