Name of Base: ‘B-3’
Size of Base: Large
Location: Loguetown, East Blue
Base Appearance: One of the more ‘Modern’ looking Marine bases, due to the fact it was only established a few decades ago, as opposed to some bases that have centuries of heritage, the ‘B-3’ Base at Loguetown has a decidedly ‘Western’ feel to it, which is somewhat ironic given its location in the East area of the world. Surrounded by high, white walls which link several tall, square towers, the buildings of this base follow a similar design, with light and dark blue camouflage coloured walls, blue tiles on their roofs and small, blue-coloured pennants adorning their chimneys. Buildings designed with a definite sort of European design ethic, most of the structures on B-3 feature very ‘uniform’ looking windows fitted with white shutters, usually left open, and the larger buildings used by command teams and their officers often have balcony’s on them in order for commanders to address their troops. The main headquarters of ‘B-3’ is located towards the base’s centre, and is the largest building on site, with a large ‘MARINE’ sign decorating it’s front, above the large balcony it boasts, from which the commanding officer often gives his troops their ‘address’ on important issues.

Base History:
Established only a decade or so before the beginning of the ‘Great Age of Piracy’, Loguetown Base as it was originally known was created by the Marine Forces, on behalf of the World Government, in order to restrain the rowdy area that was frequently ravaged by Pirates. A stopping spot for those who had intentions on travelling to the Grand Line, while the Eastern Blue had always been considered largely ‘controlled’ thanks to its weakness, the island where Loguetown was situated had always seemed a bit of a ‘hole in the net’ of the Marines, a place where pirates could flee to temporarily in order to scurry away to the ‘safety’ of the unpredictable Grand Line. And so, in order to prevent this weakness being further exploited, ministers of the World Government elected to seize control of the location and stamp out piracy for good in this particular blue sea.
After a particularly fierce campaign, Loguetown was largely reclaimed from pirate hands, and instead a base was established close to the town, in order to watch over it. Meeting with early success, the base grew from a simple outpost to a major hub of Marine activity quite quickly, but then met with a large obstacle; a man by the name of Gol D. Roger. Successfully managing to complete the Grand Line and become pirate king, the actions of Roger became a thorn in the side of the perceived ‘Marine Control’ of the eastern sea, with more pirates than even being inspired by this man and raging across the seas rowdily. It was fitting that Loguetown would become the execution site of ‘Gold’ Roger once the man was apprehended, perhaps intentionally so as an example of the effects of piracy, but any sort of potential for this sort of result was lost from the manner of the execution. The Pirate King placing one final, lasting blow on the town, the declaration of ‘One Piece’ as he faced his death caused an unprecedented surge of activity from pirate entities, signalling the start of a new age, now known as ‘The Great Age of Piracy’.
Individuals, spurred by the exploits and declarations of Roger, became groups, and a fresh fierce wave of pirates emerged on every sea in the world, with East Blue being no stranger. Their ‘peace’ lost, over the coming years of this age, the Loguetown base was expanded further and further, strengthened to be greater to better arm it against the waves of pirate forces it faced. This was an ever continuing escalation, however, as the base strengthened, so too did those who flouted the principles of justice and morality, leading to an ever increasing battle between Marine and Pirate forces on the island. This battle continued for years, until a particular captain took up a post on the base, by the name of ‘Smoker’. A powerful warrior with a logia power, and also a strong sense of morality and duty, the ‘White Hunter’ as he came to be known became the bane of the scourge that flocked through Loguetown, achieving a record for capturing pirate forces in the region that had never been matched. However, this streak, no matter how great, could not be continued. Eventually, on the tail of a particularly slippery pirate, Smoker departed Loguetown and even East Blue, bound for the Grand Line.
Following his departure, the fortune of the Loguetown base took a downward turn, with the base moving through several commanders, all of whom with their own agenda’s and none so successful as Smoker at restraining the pirate masses that surged upon the land. Perhaps one of the most devastating incidents occurred when the base was invaded by a group led by ‘Hard Hat’ Torin Vent, a pirate of some repute in the land of East Blue. His forces overwhelming those present at the base, a large portion of the base was destroyed in the incident, and the base’s captain, Harley Rose was killed in action, perhaps an unprecedented low in the history of the base. To make matters worse, the pirate crew responsible managed to escape and remain at large, being a constant reminder of this embarrassment to Marine forces. The Loguetown base has since been rebuilt and rearmed, stronger than it was before, in order to prevent a repeat of this travesty…
