(Omgod, I am so so sorry for taking forever to post! You can totally just knock Lance out at some point and keep going cause I seem to be unable to post on a timely manner! And noted, Thor, but Lance still would consider him large just maybe not huge as in width. But he's at least a foot and a half taller than him!)
It wasn't that he was gullible or naive. Lance knew when a perp was just trying to get their way by coming up with some wild story. But he had to admit that as Tomas spoke he began to think that what he said was really true. It wasn't the way he spoke really; since there was no real emotion in it at all, but the fact that he didn't hesitate at all with the words. That they flowed smoothly and calmly told Lance that it wasn't just a half baked lie. It was either an extremely well thought out and careful lie or it was the truth.
Sabotaging the engine in order to lock the vessel into port actually sounded like something that the Marines would think of to do. If Tomas was telling the truth, then Lance knew he had to help and even if this was some sort of gimmick, he'd be right there to make sure that the criminal did what he had set out to do.
Besides, after seven and a half minutes (seriously, this guy knew exactly how long it was going to take him, what was he a machine?) he could just arrest the man again and wait for the higher ups to make the actual call as to whether the Marine would be thrown back in jail or not.
Tomas added in a little catch though at the end, explaining that he might need Lance's help with the engineer. Before the end of the sentence could clue Lance into exactly what the engineer looked like, he got to see at least the massive hand that probably belonged to him first just before Tomas was yanked into the engine room like he was nothing more than a rag doll.
"Oh, boy, well this is going to be a load of fun..." Shaking his head, Lance cautiously proceeded to the door with his body braced for attack. If the engineer, if that was who the hand had belonged to, went to grab him he would attempt to use an upper wrist block and then kick the door in to send it at the opponent. But instead there was no attack and he heard the sound of heavy footsteps. Was he going after Tomas again now that he was in his territory?
Still being cautious but moving faster now, Lance slipped inside the dimly lit engine room. Great, couldn't they invest in some actual lighting for this place? Cheapskates.
He spotted the bulky figure of the engineer up ahead. Now, Lance being relatively short and small in comparison knew he was going to have a hard time taking down the mammoth of a man. But the good thing was that the engineer seemed to be relatively slow coupled with the fact that he had a slight limp in one of his legs. If Lance used some agility and speed to his advantage, hopefully he could outwit the man and take him down.
That was the theory anyhow. Putting it into practice would be a whole different thing. Lance swallowed hard and calmed his nerves by breathing out slowly and then proceeded to run at the man, leap up and deliver a Hiza Geri, or knee strike, to the man's head from behind.
