“Alright, this is the charge into the center, recruit, terrible that you didn't end up with a safer assignment but it's nice to know that at least one marine has his head in the right place.”
Isaac Saifer couldn’t help but let out a childish grin. Captain Thor was right, he could have been assigned to any of the numerous officers in the Marines and he probably could have been assigned a much ‘nicer’ assignment. But, with what Isaac had already accomplished in the short span of this mission, he was glad he was assigned here. Captain Thor was a very respectable Marine and Isaac couldn’t see himself under any other Marine. This assignment was just what he had been trained for too.
Isaac took a look around the room as the remaining Marine’s regrouped from the other house. There were roughly twenty to twenty five men. Not a good sign. Captain Thor, though didn’t seem to mind and, as if nothing were wrong with him, broke into a run towards the center of the town. Off in the distance, Isaac could see a bright light, followed by an explosion. The faces on many of the Marines brightened and Isaac had heard one of them say that it was the work of Admiral Kizaru.
With things looking up, Isaac couldn’t help but make a playful joke as he followed Captain Thor‘s signal and ran besides him. “Looks like Lady Luck is on our side right now. Pretty soon, we may be up for promotion.” With a wink, Isaac turned his focus on the mission at hand with lifted spirits. Even Cerberus, who had been running slightly in front of Isaac seemed more energetic.
Soon, the group ran straight into the heart and soul of the town. Cerberus had stopped and seemed to be looking around nervously. Not that one could blame him, the town was uncannily quite. Apart from small flames that had subsided and dead bodies, nothing moved nor shown any signs of life. Isaac could sense Cerberus’ caution, possibly because he too felt something eerie about the place. Petting him, Isaac tried to calm him down. Isaac had heard it from many people before, an animal who’s lost his head was only a danger to their own side. So far he had done exactly what Isaac had needed him to do. He would keep it that way.
Along with some of the other Marines, Isaac began to examine the bodies. They were Marines! The sight was truly sickening, and even Isaac’s tough fortitude couldn’t handle the sight too well. The deaths of these Marines seemed to have been done by the work of gruesome, serrated blades. “The Eel…It’s the Eel…Yea that’s the Eel’s mark alright.”
So, that’s what had happened to Udyr and his crew. Murdered at the hands of pirates. It was a shame too, a whole crew lost in one battle. Even if the rumors of Captain Udyr were true, it was a shame that a Marine officer and his whole crew could be slaughtered like this. “I wonder who they fought. Must have been one hell of a group to do this to a crew of Marines,”[/I] thought Isaac to himself.
Tap tap tap tap[/b]
The sounds of somebody walking towards them put their whole group on high alert. Stepping out of the shadows was none other than, Captain Udyr?! Disbelief crawled its way across the face of every Marine there. However, it wasn’t till a company of pirates also stepped out to greet the pirates that the full force of what was going on truly hit home.
“"Heh, Captain Thor, seems like you made it into the center of town after all. They were a reliable crew but they came to know too much, I had an arrangement with a few men in this town and I couldn't quite let the whole operation go awry because a few innocents needed their homes.”
He had…killed his own crew, for the sake of some ‘operation’? The, the, the snake! The rumors and warnings that Thor had spoken to him prior to this mission were true. A man who would kill Marine’s, just for a promotion and the thought of power.
Lost in his own thoughts, Isaac had hardly heard the brief conversation that were going on between Captain Thor and Capt…, no he was no Captain of the Marines. He was a traitor who operated from within the shadows. A quick glance towards Captain Thor, and Isaac knew instinctively what would happen next. Thor would make good his promise that he had made back on The Orca, he would kill Udyr himself.
But like the rat he was, Udyr slipped back into the shadows with a grin. With an odd 200 or so pirates at his disposal, why would he risk the battle himself?
With a look of rage that could silence even the strongest of men and the bravest souls, Thor felt for his hammer and let out a bloodcurdling yell.
“AAAAAAAAARGHHHH!!! CHARGEEEEE!!!"
“Cerberus, lets GO! FOR JUSTICE!”
Rushing into the crowd, Isaac had one thing on his mind. How could an odd twenty or so Marines hope to win against this many pirates?
