With a large thud, the remaining Marine boats landed abruptly onto the shores. Although the simple trek from ship to shore was dangerous, this was only the beginning and yet so many had not made it. To be exact, five boats and its entire crew were destroyed before their fight even began. They had missed their landing site by a bit and had come farther down shore. Directly in front of them were a large grouping of rocks and the town farther beyond.
Immediately after landing, Isaac made followed behind Captain Thor and stood awaiting orders. Then, without warning of any kind, boom boom boom! Three Marines fell dead on the sand. Like a good commander, Thor had quickly given the order to find cover and had seen where the sniper was, something Isaac had failed to do. Captain Thor started shouting out orders over the sounds of the battle field and started pointing at the lighthouse. Squads three and five were to take out any enemies in the lighthouse and secure it. The Marine ships would need it if they were to launch a full scale attack. “Isaac! On me!” Scurrying around the rocks, Isaac crouched next to Captain Thor and awaited his orders.
Pointing at the young man, Captain Thor wasted no time with his orders. “You are joining in on the assault on that lighthouse, marine! I need somebody that I know has the skills to go and take the fight to whomever is hiding at the top of that structure-take care, he seems to be a good shot and might have some other hidden talents. You lead the clearing team and when you do you bring fire support to the rooftop at the gates which I and the rest of the men will be attacking as you move against the lighthouse.”
“Sir, yes sir!” This was news to Isaac, as it seemed to be to many of the older officers. He had no idea he would be leading even five men, less two squads. But Captain Thor had unwavering confidence in the young recruit. And although there were men who were grumbling and discontent with the choice, Captain Thor quickly silenced them. “Follow his orders like they were mine and bring long range rifles with you.”
“Get to the lighthouse, take anyone in there out, give you support fire. Sounds easy enough. Alright men, grab those rifles and get ready to move out!” Suddenly, it was painfully clear that whoever was shooting off the rooftop was not alone. The sound of a mortar or cannon was thrown into the mix as well. If he could capture that mortar or cannon, their support level would be drastically improved.
“Alright guys, here’s the plan. The pirates are going to have that place locked down tight without a doubt. I want the majority to push through the front entrance and make their way to the top as soon as possible. Me and two others are going to go around. There should be some sort of back door. We’ll try and take out the guys on the top. Got it? Move out!”
Grabbing a rifle himself, Isaac and the two squads ran alongside the rocks until they reached the end of them. The lighthouse was only a ten or fifteen yards away from them. Sprinting on the sand was hard enough, sprinting on the sand with pirates shooting at you and raining down cannonballs was hell itself. They lost a few men, but they pushed on.
As they reached the base of the lighthouse, the firing seemed to all but stop. Pointing at the two closest Marines, Isaac got ready to begin their assault. “Ok, you two, on me. Everyone else, push through!”
