Name of Island: Heretic Cabal
Nickname: "The Black Hole"

Location: Grand Line; Fairytale Route

The Cabal itself has many winding labrynthine streets that are easy to become lost in. Some people hire local people as guides to get to where they need to go, for the mapping system is inadequate: the likelihood of getting a map that is, one, not a fake, and two, accurate, is very low indeed. In The Cabal favelas and luxury estates are side by side, held together by the streets that criss cross the entirity of the island.
The port of The Cabal is also the location of the marine base. You'd be hard pressed to find a good and honest marine within its dull walls. In fact, the only time one seems to see the marines of Heretic Cabal is on the nighthingych: even the most corrupt of fellows knows that if you don't own the nights, then you are always at risk. Of course, that isn't to say they dilligently watch over those wandering the dark streets of The Cabal. They just make sure that what ever is lurking out there doesn't cause them, or anyone in their vicinity, too much harm.
O The Dragon -- The peak of Tarran's palace is forever shrouded in smog that all who venture into return from in a jar. It is here that the Dragon is located; a technologically advanced contraption that allows the self-imposed emperor of Heretic Cabal to rain fire on any and all that disrupt the island to such lengths that even the marines cannot stop them. The marines, of course, try to be as peaceful and amicable to Tarran as possible because of it. An interesting thing to note is that the more the Dragon is used, the less smog there seems to be around the island. Perhaps the two are connected...

Island History:
At this time in the world, vendetta's were rather difficult to carry out. With limited boat quality, following someone in order to do them in was rather perilous, and most people decided to agree to disagree, rather than travel the world to fight battles that raged on for years. The strongest naval power, the marines, were not so amused in carrying out extraneous requests of revenge. And so, the common folk had to make do with silent hate. Vindication was left to the rich. And, true to this, the trigger that started Vasta Sancta on its journey to being the gathering place of heretics involves two rich men. The first is Amir Hardrada, the second is Walden Hranson. Amir Hardrada was a priest from the East Blue, who was famous for being less than honest with the comely girls that came to confession. Unfortunately, one of these girls was Wanda Hranson, a rich girl that became ridiculed all over the Blues for entering the church a virgin, and leaving it a jezebel. Walden was understandibly annoyed. Having many resources, Walden was free to hunt down Amir.
And hunt he did.
Because of the ridicule, Amir decided to go to Vasta Sancta. Because of the ridicule, Walden decided to go to Vasta Sancta. He trailed Hardrada, silently and with the best stealth 2,000,000 beli could buy, before dropping into the cathdral behind him. Walden pulled a dagger from his pocket and stabbed Amir through the throat; the gory murder spraying the cathedral walls in blood which can still be seen today. It is said Amir cried out the name of the devil when he was killed, which is why the cathedral has its name. In the most holy of places, evil was born. From that day forth pirate crews and others of malicious intent found themselves, apparently by chance, happening upon the island. Some stayed, formed settlements despite the bitter cold. It was said that being so close to the devil kept them warm. At any rate, Vasta Sancta was no more; Walden's murder put an end to that. The island took on a new name: Heretic Cabal; so named for the gathering of two famous ones. Amir, for his womanizing ways. Walden, for his hypocritical murder. This island became the gathering place for others this way inclined.
Heretic Cabal stagnated for a few hundred years. The population remained pretty steady, but the island didn't move on from stone tools for centuries. They discovered swords and muskets only when it was decided that a marine base should be set up there. For years it relied on being given 'leg ups' in technology by the rest of the world. That was until a group of people known as the Arrow Pirates happened upon the island. After many adventures, they had made it into the Grand Line, albeit with bounties so low they were retracted. They came across Heretic Cabal, and, like many pirates before them, decided to stay there for the near future. Taking advantage of the lax marines, their captain, Tarran, quickly established himself as the ruler of the island. Not, as many assumed, out of evil, but out of the want to bring the Heretic Cabal forward, out of its bad reputation, and revolutionise it. He wanted to make it a forerunner in the world; a place worthy of having representatives at the Reverie. And so he worked, using the science of the island as well as the brain power of his crew, tirelessly to turn the Ironic Cathedral into a factory, and construct the Dragon. The Dragon is his greatest piece of work: a mechanical contraption that creates explosions, utilising the amount of combustable material in the air to make him and his colleagues seem untouchable. The Cabal started to industrialise, to the point it is at today.[/ul] [/size]
