Renata didn’t waste time waiting for the man to bleed out. She took out the knife just as swiftly as she’d plunged it into his heart. He put up his arms to struggle, but shock slowed his movements. She swatted away his attempts to grab his weapon and just slit his throat, kicking him in the stomach to send him flying into the wall. He crumpled into a heap, the look of despair and fear of a man facing his death completely lost on Renata.
She felt nothing and did not even spare him a second glance as she turned to watch Indra go to work. Yep. Definitely an assassin. Classic. He opened the door, revealing his target standing in the room surrounded by valuables. The one that captured Renata’s attention, of course, was a strange looking fruit in a glass case. She hardly listened to Indra, just waving him off to deal with his target as she smashed the glass and took out her prize.
Its truly bizarre appearance gave her some pause. Was it a real fruit? She’d assumed that it was some piece of art or something for the crowning jewel of a fancy auction. A little squish informed her that this was indeed a real fruit though. Weird. Blue Sea fruits were truly odd. Must be rare though. Would it spoil if she didn’t eat it? Hm. This posed a little predicament for Renata that she hadn’t anticipated.
She shrugged, glancing over to Indra to see how he was going. He stalked over to the nobleman who didn’t even try to fight back. What a pathetic loser. What Indra said next caused Renata’s eyes to go wide with surprise. She bit her lip and turned away, her shoulders heaving, trying not to let loose the rolling tides of laughter that threatened to erupt from her. It was a futile effort. She wheezed with laughter as Indra killed the man, wiping a tear from her eye.
“Are you serious?” she asked, between wheezed giggles, “The symphony of his demise? Your blades whisper the language of death? That’s hilarious. You’re really going all in on this brooding assassin bit, huh?”
The giggles finally dying down, Renata wiped away the last of the tears from her eyes. “Ah, alright. Yeah, let’s get going.” Grabbing a handful of additional riches and stuffing them into her pockets, Renata stepped back out into the stark white hallway to see a rather large group of unhappy looking people with guns and swords running their way.
“Stop them!”
“She’s got the Devil Fruit!”
“Don’t let her eat it!”
“Oh, so I’m supposed to eat it, huh?” Renata muttered, looking down at the fruit before turning and running in the opposite direction.
