Trying to think back to the previous night, the last image that she could remember was a game of truth or dare, then something to do with a plank, which she guessed was a balancing game, but that was it. She had been drunk before, but never to such a degree that there were complete gaps in her memory.
Taking a deep breath, Danielle lowered her hands when Namkhai came to her and knelt down beside her. For a moment, she looked confused. Seeing him down on his knees before her was hardly an appropriate position after waking up in his bed with his ring on her finger. Luckily, they were alone and she could afford to let her guard down temporarily. While he spoke, she looked into his eyes, unable to conceal the worry that her glistening red eye betrayed.
This was an unusual side of Namkhai that she didn’t see very often - surely she offered a side she rarely revealed as well at this moment... but she was somewhat drawn to it. Perhaps because it was always hidden away beneath his tough façade of a wrestler, she never realised what a soothing voice he could speak with, or the gentle touch of his large hand on hers.
The moment of softness between them was soon interrupted as the door burst open. Immediately, Danielle jerked her hand out of his and hid it behind her back while staring at the woman standing in the doorway, a puzzled look on the blonde’s reddened face. It took a moment before a vague memory came back to her and she recalled an incident while wrestling Beast.
“No, that’s…” she started, but before she could elaborate further, the woman sprinted around the room, her transformation confirming Danielle’s memory. Beast was so excited, she wasn’t sure how to break the news to her but knew it had to be done carefully.
“Beast, calm down. Stop running around- oh, there they are…” trying to act cool and relaxed, Danielle rose and walked over to her trousers that must have been pulled out from their hiding spot while the giant shapeshifting dog ran circles in the room. Appreciating his kind attempts to ease her worries, the treasure huntress put a hand on Namkhai’s shoulder as she passed, squeezing it in a gesture of gratitude, but was eager to end the conversation.
Picking up her trousers, she put them on and then adjusted the buttons on her shirt to align them properly, before tucking it into the waist of the trousers to look less scruffy.
“Namkhai and I are not getting married,” she glanced at the Titan as she masked any hint of disappointment in her tone as best she could - it would be nice, to have an excuse to stay… but giving up Rosalina was too much for her to bear.
“It was just a misunderstanding. When people have too much to drink, they do things without thinking…” keeping her hand in her pocket to hide the ring, she fiddled with it with her thumb, turning it and getting quite used to the feel of it. Now that she was calmer, it would be easy to twist it off her finger, but she wasn't sure she wanted to yet. “Then they wake up in the morning and they realise that they made a few mis-”
Danielle suddenly stopped talking, staring at Beast as if only just now realising what Beast actually said.
“Wait... why did you ask us if it’s true? Does that mean everybody’s talking about us already? Does everybody else think Namkhai and I are actually engaged?”
As the blonde’s face felt like it could catch fire, her cool, calm, and collected approach clearly failed. She couldn’t decide what was more embarrassing… the fact that she must have accepted a proposal in front of everyone while already engaged to somebody else, or that people actually believe that she and Namkhai could make a couple.
“Engaged… to this… gorilla?” She now shifted her attention to Namkhai, though her voice grew quieter as her words triggered a brief memory of him calling her something… her words were almost inaudible as she repeated them exactly how she remembered them.
"My little monkey…"
