Lukas froze for a moment, holding the last of his fries a few inches from his mouth after Rakka had asked about keeping in contact with them, including inquiring about him having a Den Den Mushi. His mind raced for a good explanation or reason why they couldn't keep in contact or why the two of them never got around to getting one of the snail phones and the more his mind raced the longer the silence grew, the hand with the fry slowly sinking down onto the table. At this point, the long pause was more than obvious enough and Lisa simply slid off the table and up onto Lukas' shoulders, wrapping around him once.
The weight and coolness of Lisa's body brought Lukas back to his senses and he offered Rakka a smile, though it wasn't nearly as bright as his others and had a forced feeling to it. "W-Well, we've not really had time to think about getting one... and I mean with the travelin' we've been doing we've just been... more focusin' on just enjoyin' things... I mean why would we want people.... why would people want to..." He stumbled on his words a bit, trying to put things down in a way that didn't seem too suspicious but was, without a doubt, having a bit of trouble.
Lisa gave his shoulders a slight squeeze and Lukas put a hand onto her coils right in front of him, his eyes looking at the discoloration of his fingers not covered by his gloves. "We don't have a place to return to, and generally only stay in areas long enough to get food and berry before movin' on, so we don't exactly leave any trails or was to find us afterward. Move from place to place without much rhyme or reason so followin' us isn't easy. We're just sort of nomadic in that sense I guess." He said, picking up the last fry once more and tossing it into his waiting mouth with a bit of renewed gusto.
"That said, I'm sure if ya wanted ya could write down a number we could reach ya at, yeh? I mean... that is how the Den Den Mushi work right? Gotta dial a number on em to reach out to others? It's not like islands don't have their own form of Den Den Mushi people can use to place calls." Lukas said, trying to turn the conversation around once more to a more positive and uplifting side of things. He could feel himself getting a little too warm but Lisa's cool coils were helping him from getting too stressed out.
He didn't want to reveal too much to Rakka but he didn't want to straight up lie to the Marine either. Rakka was correct in that the two of them sorta considered him to be a friend, or at least a very good acquaintance they wouldn't mind keeping in touch with.
