Croesus was heavily focused on what he was reading, and in fact not listening to Michael's first comment. As the man growled, however, something about his apology Cro shrugged. “No, I don’t see it that way,” he replied in a rather chipper tone as he was quite pleased to see Eve so happy to have them both eating over, and to finally have a lead in their investigation.
Then he frowned as Michael pointed out what he had already realised - they didn’t have much time. As he looked at the man, Cro was quite horrified to see the sinister smile that was slowly growing into a wide grin as such an evil master plan was revealed. “No…” he whispered, staring at him in disbelief. That was more cruelty than the little dwarf had even seen in his life - his options were choosing between the young lady who wished to get in touch with her father, which they could make happen, and Eve. How could he choose?
His horrified look was then turned to Eve, and then to the portions put down at the table for them - then back to Michael, who was clearly eating extremely slowly with purpose. Eve’s face lighting up made this difficult - there was no way he could tell her that they couldn’t eat here with her… so there was only one alternative.
First, he glared at Michael, who had a stupidly victorious grin on his face that made the fairy sick. Next, he smiled to Eve. “That sounds lovely, Eve! Thank you so much, I appreciate it and I’m sure it’s all delicious.”
Then, he took a deep breath and picked up his plate, raising it to his mouth and tipping it over to dump all of its contents in his mouth. It wasn’t the best lasagna he’d ever tasted, but it was made by Eve and that meant it included the secret ingredient of love. “Mmm! So delicious!” He exclaimed, his mouth full and cheeks stuffed, before holding his plate out. “Can I please have seconds?”
Turning to Michael, he offered the same victorious smile that had been given by him earlier, though with swollen cheeks that stored the food that he was still chewing and trying to swallow. This way, Michael could eat as slowly as he wanted to because he wasn’t going to have the chance to get more than one serving. Cro would make sure of that.
