Oh, that wasn’t about to work. Quinn hadn’t really expected it to. He stepped back and scowled up at her as she grew to block the hallway. Dammit. His nerves were fit to explode and whatever fury that had enabled him to stand up against the devil woman in the first place had melted into a pathetic puddle. He recoiled, brow furrowing.
“A-Arrogant?”
Ophelia tried to interject, but Lilin snapped at her and cut her off, which seemed to deter her from further interference. She continued berating him, making Quinn shrink and recoil, the ends of his tentacles curling up in his extreme discomfort. Which only worsened a thousand fold when she swooped down and pressed their faces close. Way too close. His eyes went wide, and he flinched. Potential?
Almost as swiftly as she’d appeared in his face, Lilin disappeared, laughing and leaving him confused, hurt, frustrated, and more than a little wide eyed. He jumped a little when Ophelia spoke up behind him, temporarily having forgotten that she was even there. He looked back as she offered up a few words and turned away. Quinn reached out with a hand but stopped himself.
He frowned, turning away and walking down the dark corridor to his room. His mind was a jumble, and it was too hard to even hold a train of thought for even a moment. Quinn closed the door behind himself and slumped down on his bed, the mushrooms already starting to sprout on his head.
“A freak…”
Maybe Lilin was right. He was arrogant. He was a freak. Probably worse of one than anyone else on this ship.
“Ya do?!” Gobbie cheered as Tally confirmed that she did indeed know some Fishman Karate. Gobbie’s eyes sparkled in anticipation, hardly hearing that Tally wasn’t much of a teacher. Voorhees sidled on over. Gobbie looked at him, grinning widely with her big shark teeth, and then back to Tally, mimicking Voorhees’ bow with a curtsy of her own. “Please teach us, Tally-sensei!”
