Louisa #4
Eventually, they stopped. Hidden amongst the draping leaves and branches of a large willow, just a little ways away from a rather foreboding entrance to a cave — a moment of respite and planning. Sneakily scanning the environment, McLeod Louisa spied the cave’s entrance, guarded by a couple of strangers who seemed to loosely patrol and stand watch. She pouted. It just had to be a cave, didn’t it?
“Any objections?” the fellow redhead spoke, drawing Lou’s focus back to the group as she stood concealed by the willow’s roots and trunk. Exposed dirt had been etched with comically simplistic icons of the four of them, provoking an odd expression from the Piktish native as she squatted down to join the group, Tattie sitting pretty atop her hat and nibbling away at some berries he’d swiped from one of the bushes they’d squeezed past.
“Stealth isn’t exactly my area of expertise,” said the largest one, pointing out the obvious flaw. How nobody had noticed a lumbering colossus approaching was beyond her as she re-examined the fact he was absolutely enormous. Even squatting down and hunched over in what was likely a very uncomfortable stance, he stood out like a sore thumb, and to that all she could do was gently scratch at the side of her face. It was then, with a soft and graceful thud, that the other girl appeared and spoke.“EEP!”“Great plan,” the big man said:
“I say we do it…”
“Eh? Ah dorn’t mean tae be rude, but,” Louisa began, struggling to keep her voice at a tempered level, such was her natural volume. “Ah dorn’t think it actually matters whit we do now? Those guards cannae possibly be dumb enaw tae both try an’ see whit all th’ commotion is, aye? Nobody’s that stupid! Oops,” she stalled, realising perhaps a little too late that her volume had been rising back to normal levels, and only then silencing herself with both hands over her mouth to pointlessly mask sounds made no longer.
“Did you ‘ere that?” travelled the quietened voice of one of the guardsmen, just about reaching the ears of the group as he questioned his cohort. O, how much of a blunder the bonnie lass had made. If the mammoth man’s stealthiness was poor, heavens knew how hers compared. Tattie, facepalming, hopping from the woman’s hat and half-scurried, half-waddled his was over to the sniper, apparently aiming to hitch a ride with the quieter one now that their cover had been blown.“Hear what…?”“Over there,” said the first:
“We should take a look…”“It’s probably just the wind!”“What if it’s a bear? Or a chickcharney,” he protested:
“C’mon and help me look, it’ll only take two seconds!”
“Tch! You’re such a baby… Fine,” said the other, rolling his eyes and emerging from his half-hidden post as his comrade stepped forth with cautious steps. Just the sound of the exchange alone caused Lou’s hands to fall, her expression to change, and for her to mouth — still somehow loudly despite making no actual noise — several unintelligible words of frustration and protest before settling on a quiet whisper again.“Weel, prove me wrang,” she hissed:
“Ah guess we’re goin’ wi’ yer plan…”{Post Synopsis:—}
While plans are discussed, Louisa ends up being proven wrong and accidentally spurring Gabz’s plan into motion through volume blunder! Meanwhile, Tattie decides to accompany the sniper on her quest!
