Strolling through the huge onsen and looking around, Zoe sighed a big sigh of relief. She’d managed to give Dandy and Billy the slip. Not that she didn’t love their company, but they were more than a little suffocating. Zoe grinned wolfishly. Besides, she had plans. Gambling plans! She’d promised Billy that she wouldn’t use any of their savings to gamble, so that they could get off on the right foot in their new life. So, that meant that she’d just have to scrounge up some extra funds from somewhere else!
The important thing to do was not get caught. Mostly because she still had a busted leg. Zoe glanced down at the cast and grimaced. That was gonna limit her escape options. Fortunately for her, she’d gotten pretty good with these crutches. They were like arm extenders. She only needed three limbs anyway to get around. She shuffled through the doors of the casino, making sure to look appropriately pathetic and disabled.
Her eyes wandered from person to person, looking for a good mark. She wanted cash, so it would have to be some rich idiot who had money to burn. She knew the type, so it wasn’t hard to recognize them when she saw them. And- ah! Perfect. Zoe smirked, her eyes landing on a dork in a suit, swaying unsteadily on his feet. He was drunk, perfect. Odds were that he wouldn’t even remember he had cash on him.
Zoe ambled toward him, rushing slightly to make it look like she was in a hurry. With how he was swaying, he bumped into her without Zoe actually having to do much. As he did, her hands slid into his jacket and snipped his wallet, palming it into the makeshift pocket in the front of her shirt. She just as quickly stumbled away on her crutches.
“O-Oh! I’m sorry, sir!”
“Thassss right... who’re you…?”
His gaze slid over her like oil for a moment before turning back to his buddies and forgetting that she ever existed. Or, more likely, probably thinking that she was beneath him as soon as he saw the lion ears and tail. Zoe scowled. Gosh, she hated people like him. He was the sort that deserved to get pickpocketed. Shaking her head, Zoe shuffled away to a remote corner of the casino to get a look at her score.
“Man, it’s just too easy.”
