-- CHAPTER 1 // THE STARS ALIGN
Shido couldn't blame the man. He was a proper big brother to his siblings, one of those that care about their well being just as much as their happiness. Shido grew up with no brothers or sisters, and because of that, he never really experienced what it meant to either be one or be one's brother.
This train of thought didn't stop the wolf from getting mildly offended over Billy's request. He crossed his arms, thinking to himself that the boy could at least try to understand the situation. He was a man of habits, and it's better not to make a man of habits wait.
Lola on the other hand was just enjoying the show. Laughing her heart out much like the other kids at the goat's antics, she cheerfully splashed him with her paws as much as she could. The kids loved him, no doubt about that; including Marvin, who seemed to enjoy the moment way more than all the time he passed with just her and Shido.
But she couldn't blame it on herself, nor on the wolf. They were simply not tailored for such things - no, better, each of them was tailored for wildly different things. On the one hand, it was what made their bond special; on the other, doing anything out of the ordinary was extraordinarily difficult.
Shido's tail patted Lola on the back. "Out of the water," he said, "you know how much it takes your fur to dry." The girl nodded, slightly annoyed at the fact that they had to leave so early. But Shido was only being careful, she knew that for a fact - he would never push her to do something if it wasn't for her safety. Sometimes, she simply wished he wasn't as serious.
"Marvin, you should get ready soon, too!" Lola called from the side of the pool.
Lunch was offered by a restaurant not far away from the pool. Lola and Shido got their regular clothes back, and if it wasn't already clear how different they were by then, their clothing would truly set them apart. Lola went with a crop top with the word "BNUY" stamped on the front, simple black baggy pants and sneakers for shoes. Shido, on the other hand, went full ninja: bandages on shins and arms, a black ninja suit covering his body with Kanji written on the back; he looked ready to shoot the waitresses with kunais - and he was probably keeping some on himself too.
The wolf sat at the table, elbows on and fingers locked; Lola, with her eternally swinging feet hanging from the chair, checked out the menu. "Says here they have the kid's menu, too. Hamburgers - not the guy, Ham Burger - and fries. Looks like something up a wolf's alley, right?"
Shido groaned at the joke. "I don't need any pre-minced food" he replied, "it's like they chewed it before serving it!" The wolf leaned over to look at the menu for himself. The prices became astonishing very quickly, thankfully the money they were going to pay with wasn't theirs.
"So! Everybody take your picks. I'm going with..."
