Orange Town was a small little town in a quiet corner of the East Blue. So, Vepar wasn’t exactly sure how to approach this situation. She’d spent the better part of the day just swimming around the port, trying to get close but not too close. She was sort of hoping to just… bump into this tiger fellow. Or see someone who was definitely and obviously “White Tiger” material. No one really fit that description here. There were plenty of white haired old fishermen, but they all looked old, feeble, and not even remotely datable.
Her mental image of this tiger guy was definitely datable. Hm. Vepar had her head poked out just above the surface of the water, but she ducked back down to look at her companion, Calcifer. He was a giant squid, but with a lot of effort and some physics defying contortions, he could resemble a human. It was a talent of his, for sure. She tapped him on his mantle, waiting until he turned to look at her.
Should we just go up there? Vepar signed. Cal rubbed his beak as if it were a human chin - something he had picked up from his method acting - and poked his eye up above the surface of the water as well. He held a tentacle up to shield his eye from the sun and scanned the area before ducking back down.
“It looks like a small podunk town! What role do you think I should play?”
Vepar rolled her eyes and sighed. Not again. She pouted, putting a hand on her chin as she watched Cal quickchange into an outfit. She never understood how he managed to do that with all of his extra limbs. He spun around with a flourish, now wearing an old timey detective outfit. “Haha! What do you think?” He tucked a pipe into his beak for dramatic effect.
Vepar shook her head, making Cal rub his chin.
“No? Hm… You’re right. Too academic!” Another spin and Cal was in another outfit. This time it was a green robe and… witch hat? Vepar squinted at him, trying to figure out what he was supposed to be while Cal looked on proudly. The longer she tried to figure it out, the prouder Cal seemed. Oh no. Eventually, she just gave up, nodding and sitting back from Cal, giving him tiny applause.
“Haha! I knew it! The mage never fails!”
Cal turned his back to her, earning him another eye roll. This was from the tabletop game that he played, that much she was sure of. What was it called? Labyrinths and Leviathans? Yeah, that sounded right. By the time Cal had turned back around, she realized that he had been talking the whole time. She could only read the last few words of his statement.
“...genius! I know, I know. Well, should we get going?” Cal asked, looking up at her with his one big eye from beneath his hat. When she nodded, Cal tucked away his beak into his robes, switching to their nonverbal form of communication. Taking him in her hands, Vepar surfaced from the port, stepping up onto dry land. She towered over everyone, even some of the ships. She saw a lot of terrified looks and could see that some people were screaming. Vepar lowered Cal to the ground with a sigh.
Time to catch a tiger by the tail.
