-- CHAPTER 8 //They Shoot Pirates, Don't They?
The wind blew erratically through the calm town, Naya Town! A small town in the Goa Kingdom and home to Reynard! The town was roughly twenty-two miles north of the Capital and about half as far away from Foosha Village. It was a beautiful place with many barns adorning the landscape... rolling green hills filled the lush landscape of this grand town. Like any place in the East Blue, Naya Town was very peaceful and rarely saw any problems save for the occasional mountain bandit attack.
But even that was on the rarer end of things... and even if they attacked they'd have to deal with the town's newest hero. Reynard, Naya Town was his home town and he'd taken leave this winter... a much-needed vacation if you asked him. It had been almost a year since he'd last been in Naya Town... it felt like less but no. In the first month of leaving, he fought Don Pavor in Mirrorball. Then he had an encounter with Suto the Butcher an experience that left its permanent scars and of course how could he fail to remember Samurai Wagyu... that last one had been a breaking point for the young man.
He'd done something that few in these parts were capable of. Crushed through steel like it was nothing. However good some of the experiences were and however good him making friends in his voyages they still took a toll on him. At the end of the day, Reynard was a simple country boy who had grown up in a calm town. This life of action in the high seas was something new to him but surely it would be something he'd have to learn and get used to.
Standing in a gnoll overlooking the town dotted with red barns Reynard looked at the sparkling blue sea ahead. A few marine galleons stationed at the port... a small patrol party who had stopped by to resupply here before moving on to the Yotsuba region or perhaps back to Tequila Wolf. Whatever they were up to it caused a commotion among the townsfolk who gossiped about their arrival. Kids would watch as the Marine soldiers walked through town in awe... Reynard knew this well he had been one of those kids when he was younger. Reynard closed his eyes and reminisced on this passing year, he took his top hat off and took a deep breath as the wind blew through his brown hair. It was not bad. But he was happy... happy to be...
"Home at last."
Home, a place of relaxation and peace... he'd already been to his house and met his family. But despite missing their company he felt he needed some alone time quickly. The kitsune's coat fluttered in the wind, a traditional set of clothes normal to Goa... a blue coat and top hat. He had to wonder though, if this year had brought so many new things to the table... then what would next year bring? Rosalyn did promise him that they'd make it to the Grand Line soon. But in all honesty that seemed like a distant dream more than anything and even if they went to the Grand Line? Then what? Was he even ready for the Grand Line? He hadn't even gotten his first promotion as he hoped... it was more likely Rakka would get one at this point. He was so charismatic... everyone loved him especially after that stunt he pulled with the ships. He was a hero. Reynard opened his eyes.
"Am I worthy?"
He spoke to himself, there was a doubt in his heart. He had done many incredible things... Vaun his Captain had even entrusted him with looking for his daughter. Reynard frowned, he was strong and had a good record but that could only take him so far. If he wanted that promotion he had to work on his leadership skills... with the Marines to be specific. Leading a Mime and a Bandit to fight a mob boss wasn't going to get him a promotion. With new resolve and determination, Reynard looked up at the horizon. He was going to work harder when he came back. He was going to make Rosalyn and Vaun proud.
