Penelope #8
Snow cubes did nothing — they weren’t intended to. At least, not from an offensive perspective. Pelting the bandit in his precious face was more of an annoyance at best, but it did as she needed it to do. There were times when, even against the most incredibly skilled of opponents, a suitable distraction could be their downfall. In the case of Miss Schwartz, this distraction had served its purpose, for eyes temporarily blinded by wintry powder could not have seen where her hand had next swiped, even with her low stance.“Annoying brat,” he grumbled:
“Suffer…!”
All according to keikaku! Ah, crap… Now I want cake… What started as a rather steady poker face quickly turned itself to a frown as per her thought process, but perhaps that just served to further distract her foe from what she had planned? Regardless, the enemy’s charge was a swift one, at a speed that she had not anticipated him to be capable of. To see somebody so large move so fast was a surprise. To see somebody clad in full armour close the distance was almost frightening, her reactions lacking the sharpness to counter such a strike as would likely be delivered by his newly forged mace.
In fact, what happened was far from according to plan for either party. The ivory infidel’s own deception was met by one of Penny’s own, albeit the latter of the two was missing a crucial step that would have cost her had the former not committed. From her almost crouching stance, a finger tapped the ground under her feet — permafrost previously partitioned by her influence — and the result was as sudden as anything. Rising up with speed, the girl’s balance was thrown by the sudden ascent, conveniently placing the toughened mix of frozen groundwater and dense, barely fertile soil into the path of the bony boot.“Wha…? Hm! Well,” she huffed:
“Better make use of this…!”
Finding herself falling forwards from her now elevated perch, the now airborne angel’s agility kicked into gear — a small but valuable compensation for the fearful fumble she had just committed. One hand, fingers splayed, pressed against the back of the bandit’s body as she fell behind him, digits phasing through the solid bone and causing it to split into dozens upon dozens of cubes no more than an inch in dimension. This was her chance, not one to be wasted, and soon thereafter her sabre flicked upwards along the exposed patch as her feet touched down…{Post Synposis:}
Penelope attempts to use Blockade to intercept Marshall’s mace (not aware of his change of plan), but is startled and fails to dismount the cube she created, instead falling over him. This, however, provides her an opportunity to break his armour and strike!
