-- CHAPTER 6 // UNFAIR
"Mommy!" The little girl screamed, pulling at her mother's skirt. "Mommy, I want to play at the shooting gallery! Please!"
The crooked figurines danced around, mounted on metal poles with gears and conrods, inviting children from all around to pick up a soft air gun and hunt them down. It was perhaps a sad coincidence that most of them resembled hybrids between humans and fishes.
The fair had stirred up the quiet community of Shells Town; the entire place had become a gigantic collection of stands, from food stands to games, complete with street performers, jugglers, blade swallowers. All in all, the city dressed up to be a happy town for a few days.
But the truth was much scarier.
The reason why Deman had left Elysium, his homeland, lied in this particular city. The reign of terror of Delsin Anther, Deman's slaver, ended after the revolution; from his personal room were retrieved documents that tied Delsin to many buyers.
Deman himself was on that list - one day, he decided, he would hunt them all one after the other. The first entry of the list pointed to Shells Town; in particular, it pointed to a man named Garter Mite.
Ironic, Deman thought as he walked through the town. The townsfolk, oblivious to the reality of things, looked happy and content. It was the kind of happiness born from ignorance; he couldn't blame them, for there was no way they could have known.
From the documents emerged that the slaves served one purpose alone: to run a factory, advertised to the people as "running on wind power". The purpose of the factory was unknown, but the amount of protection it received from the World Government - judging from the mere size of the Marine base on the island - raised Deman's suspicions.
