Kanra #16 / Basti #16
The guardsman carefully set the dial down and reached his hand into the bag once again. This time he came out with a very flat mostly circular one. Holding it carefully between his fingers he turned it about ignoring most of the conversation that was going on aside him save to pass Kohengi the rest of the sack of dials when she came to look into it. Remembering what had just happened he outstretched his arm a little more getting the item a bit farther from his face lest another smell pour out and set him on his ass once more.
Carefuly fingers pressed about until he found the activator. Basti clicked on it and suddenly heat expanded from the dial's entrance. The sudden release of heat surprised him though not so much. He was neither singed nor crisped. "Hmm, heat dial." He said to himself continuing to hold the dial which was continuing to heat up. "These are quite something. Just as I remember the-YOW!!" The heat had continued to rise until it did finally become too hot for Basti.
The guard let go of the dial allowing it to fall clattering onto the floor of the ship. He swung his hand at his wrist pushing the cool sea air across a few reddened fingers from overly close contact.
Kanra walked over to Basti her attention was still mainly on the conversation going on aside between Kohengi and Avis. But stopping over him she grabbed his hand for a moment staring perceptively at the man's fingers. "This looks fine, it is no more than a superficial burn." She said letting free of Basti's fingers. The guard looked at her and then back at his fingers still grimacing. They were bothering him still. Kanra clicked her tongue, thinking for a moment.
"Here be still for a second." She said turning her pack around for a moment before reaching in and pulling out a small jar. She unscrewed the top, a bit of aloe cream was inside. It was good for burns. She took a single finger dipped into it and then brought it to Basti's carefully spreading it across his fingers.
"There. Feel better?"
Basti Skysong nodded his head in response, it was immediately cooler. A surprising relief to feel so soon. He breathed a sigh of relief as Kohengi turned to him and asked something. It was barely worth the question, "Of course I'll protect you." Basti said standing up immediately and thumping his chest with a fist. "From whatever you need me to." He said giving her a broad smile. It felt good to say things like that. If it gave a little comfort to anyone whom he was protecting it was such an easy thing to say. It was nice, fitting, he liked to say it. Kohengi then turned to Kanra.
The doctor nodded her head in response to Kohengi's question. "If you want to go, I will lead you there. It is what you are paying me for in anycase." She said thoughtfully. There was not really much question to it. This was the service she had agreed to provide. It was a guide so long as they were at the Moonlight Market.
"So shall we negotiate a price?" Avis asked with a smile. Kanra held back a small chuckle. She bent down and picked up the dial that had been so carelessly dropped by Basti. It was warm, warmer than she'd expected, but not so hot that it might burn someone. She glanced back at her hired guard for a moment. Perhaps it had cooled down? But if it created heat, then maybe it could be of some use. Though something that created fire would be slightly preferable.
"When you figure that out. You can give me the location." Kanra said mindlessly as she took her turn to carefully examine the dial in her hand. To her it just looked like some sea shell, so what exactly was different about it.
