"What's the difference between chasing the wind and chasing life?"
Koda asked himself out loud. It was a rhetorical question. There was no correct answer to it. But if you asked Koda, he'd probably say that there is no difference. You can't grasp the wind even though you can feel it... you also can't see the wind. Not to mention the wind is free and goes where it pleases never asking for permission where to head next. It's similar to how you can feel life by living it.
But at the same time, you can't control where it takes you and you cannot see the future. Most would say that it all hinges on the decisions you make. Others the spiritual types, believe in destiny. Koda didn't believe in either. Because if either were true then evil would come to those who did evil. More often than not. That wasn't the case.
Karma was a whole load of bullshit to him. That's why he was forced to do the job he was doing. Ever since that 'White Chaser' fellow left Logue town the management had been less than subpar and the place was now more likely to be crawling with pirates. Turning the corner of a building Koda spotted a young red haired boy selling newspapers. How convenient! Newspapers were quite useful.
"Newspaper please!"
The Cipher Pol agent said to the paperboy. The child strained his neck rolled-up at the towering Koda. It wasn't every day you saw an eight-foot Kabuki actor wearing a tuxedo. The paperboy nodded and handed him a rolled-up newspaper to Koda who in exchange handed the boy two coins.
"Geez these damn things are getting more expensive by the day... they use to be one coin when I was your age. How hard can it be to produce ink on paper!?"
The paperboy blinked at Koda in confusion and gave the Cipher Pol Agent shrug. Kobe frowned, indifference.
"Ah, shut up! This is just my job! CLOWN!"
Clown!? What! He was no clown! He was a Kabuki actor! No way he would be reduced to a buffoon. Well, that was rude of that boy. It seems brats learn quickly these days, then again this was the boy's job so he couldn't blame him. He too was a bit of a slacker at times. Mostly because he wasn't particularly passionate about what he did. But hey! It gave a decent paycheck so maybe it wasn't so bad.
Koda walked off and sat on a bench where he began paging through the newspaper. Criminals... pirates... gangsters... bandits people of all sorts flooded the bounties page. But his eyes looked for someone specifically... Risa Vontanna. She wasn't a particularly dangerous criminal apparently having murdered a few seamen with an act of arson. Hell if you took her bounty into account it was just a measly 2.5 million which wasn't even impressive by East Blue standards.
This didn't diminish the importance of chasing after her, however. It would seem she was a former apprentice pirate under the "Thorn Pirates" quite the crew in the East Blue. As one of the few surviving members of the crew, she could perhaps be interrogated to rangle up the rest and finally put in end to them. Koda let out a sigh looking at the green-haired woman printed on the pages of the newspaper.
"This is boring..."
He mused. Frankly, chasing petty criminals wasn't fun! Doing some espionage on a Revolutionary controlled Island was more interesting. Koda crumpled up the newspaper in anger and tossed it into a nearby trash bin. He was jealous that his colleague got to spy on the Revolutionaries of Saint Reia! Hanging out in the South Blue with its tropical weather and cute girls was the dream! Not to mention being a sick ass spy.
"Fucking damn you KARL!"
Koda growled to himself.
"No, this isn't the way to go... about this."
Letting out a sigh the Cipher Pol Agent rubbed his temples. He couldn't let his rivalry with Karl get in the way of his job. This was important too right? Yes? No... well... ok maybe. He didn't know. However, he did know he would probably be in hot water if he came empty-handed. Besides he didn't want to be labeled a loser by the other agents for messing up on such an easy job.
"If I was a criminal... where would I go?"
Koda rubbed his chin hunching himself over to ponder on the concept. That's when his stomach growled. Checking his watch he took note that it was exactly noon! Good, his circadian rhythm was working as expected. But also bad! He couldn't think on an empty stomach. Getting food was now a priority! Standing up straight the part-time Kabuki actor and full-time Cipher Pol agent marched toward the nearest restaurant. He wasn't a particularly picky eater so any restaurant worked for him. Finally he reached an interesting looking place with white painted bricks and small potted pines planted on the outside.
"Pinerolo's!"
The Agent exclaimed looking at the restaurant name. The smell of garlic and tomato sauce poured from the inside... a pasta place. Not bad, pasta was a rather neutral food. Entering the place Koda took a seat waiting for a waiter to come and tend to his needs as a customer. It was one of those kinds of restaurants. He looked around looking at different people enjoying their meals or waiting just like him. The place wasn't all that packed but it didn't seem to be all that bad either. It was clean and nobody was complaining about the food. At least not yet. It would be a true irony if Koda ran into Risa while in here. A true irony indeed...
