Scarlette #23“Does that mean that,” Scarlette considered:
“This isn’t the real him?”
In that very moment, she watched carefully as Miu descended behind Lavoisier, unleashing a ball of fire into his body. But rather than spread across and scorch him, the ball of blue simply passed straight through his back. Ghostly flames were certainly a neat trick and, in that moment, it seemed the hunter had failed to realise such a thing had even been done.
She’s insistent on fighting him, but, Miss Grimm-Rosa said in silence, I don’t see why? I’m sure of it now — that’s not him! Whether or not her assumption was correct did not matter, for she had made up her mind. When an opponent so overwhelming was not even confident enough to approach them in person, what point was there in challenging him? Any sense of excitement had waned with recent revelations, boredom and caution alone taking root in her state of mind.
Boom! In yet another display of Miu’s firepower, an explosion roared out. But this time, the blast had originated from within Lavoisier’s form, his hollow self betraying him as his entire form cracked and smouldered as it was consumed by the blue blaze. The ferocity of the feline’s flames had already shown themselves to be intense, but this wasn’t solely her power that now unleashed itself upon the area. Flames swallowed the area, but it was a wave of force that first crashed into the Red Terror and the Monster Cat.
“Hng!” Unable to stand against the shock wave, Scarlette was swept off her feet, flying backwards with force before landing in an awkward roll towards the feet of her siblings as they too shielded themselves from the fierce display of explosivity. Smoke billowed in the wake of the deafening wave, clearing only to reveal a blackened crater where the stranger had once stood.
No trace of him remained, as far as could be told.“Where’d he go?”“I think,” Big Sis replied:
“He wasn’t here to start with…”
“What kind of ability even was that?” Torrance quizzed, offering a hand to help Scarlette to her feet. The damage dealt was substantial, though the vast majority was a direct result of Miu’s own interactions with Lavoisier. Even seeing his abilities in action, however, she could not place his gifts. Flammability was perhaps the only real sign of what Lavoisier was capable of. To that end, Miu had been the better suited combatant, and that was somewhat frustrating. If Lavoisier indeed was the rare Logia class, the Red Terror was unsure of how to deal with him if their paths ever crossed again.
She was sure they would.“Oi, Miu,” Scarlette called, seeing the destruction:
“You really need to ease up a bit with the fire!”{——}——
