Rince took his eyes of Bruce and gave Danni a look instead, letting his gaze wander from head to toe. If he had to choose a word to describe her, then eye-catching might have been the one he'd gone for. From her strange choice of hat, that did a good job but wasn't able to completely hide her striking iridiecence hair to the blue jacket that was actually a sensible choice to the rather stuffed backpack that held her old garments.
It probably wouldn't have mattered, even if the girl had decided to buy a normal hat instead. Her personality was so overflowing that she would have looked conspicuous in any attire.
The thoughts of her trying to go undercover seemed so ridiculous, he couldn't even laugh about it.
„Even if you're not dressed as a Marine, they're still going to be wary of any new people who try to enter the casino, since only an idiot would go into a place that has been taken over by terrorists.“
Which to be honest, made the Comet girl the best choice after all. She did seem like the type who'd accidentally enter a situation like that.
The question was if the girl could play the part. She didn't seem like a very good actor and would likely act suspicious around the hostage takers.
„Entering that way you might serve as a distraction, but I doubt you'll be left to roam around as you want. At best they will put you with the other hostages, at worst they'll mark you as a spy and put you under extra care. Honestly, if I were a terrorist like that, then the only person I'll expect coming in at that point would be a Marine spy or an open negoator.“
The idea was utter rubbish as far as Rince was concerned, so it worried him quite a bit that Petty Officer Johnson seemed to think this was a good idea, or at least a possible idea.
Luckily for them, the stern Lieutenant had the sense to shut them down, saying that she wouldn't endanger civilians.
„Looks like you'll have to join the Marines if you want to help them.“ He commented dryly.
Bruce took that comment somewhat at face value and copied the saluting motion again, which cause Rince to glare at his friend.
Was the haggis really thinking of leaving him and joining the Marines instead?
The thought gave him a pang in his heart.
Well... he never asked the haggis to join him anyway! It was the stupid critter that had insisted on following him no matter how much he had tried to shush him away. Maybe this was his chance to get rid of the annoyance, he thought bitterly.
„Well... Miss Lieutenant has made herself very clear and I know when I'm unwanted, so I'll be taking my leave. Good luck to you with your hostage situation.“
And with that he really walked off this time.
Though after a hundred meteres or so, he turned around to see if Bruce was following him.
The haggis did not and Rince quickened his steps angrily.
Fine! Whatever!
He really hoped someone would step on Bruce!
Only, not really.
Bruce had listened to the discussion carefully and had his own thoughts about it.
Nimbly he climbed up on the funny girl's shoulder and began to convey his thoughts by pointing fro her to himself, pointed at her again and put a paw against his little ear and another in front of his snout and chirped, then he jumped from her shoulders, made himself small and slowly put a paw in front of the other, mimicing a forward movement and sneaked into hiding behind Petty Officer Jackson's leg.
That being the gist of his plan he came forward again and looked up at the human two-legs expectantly. Sure, they hadn't traveled with him like his own human had, but they seemed a lot brighter than Kyou, so they would surely understand, right?
„I still haven't heard back from them! What should I do?!“ the man whined into the phone.
The person on the other side of the conversation lifted her hand and started to massage her temples.
„Calm down dear. It's hardly been an hour since we sent the letter. The Marines are probably panicing right now, unsure what to do. Once they made up their mind, they will probably send you a Den Den Mushi so they can communicate with you and see if there can be some sort of negoations. Of course they will only try to buy time, so that they can find a way to get the hostages out unharmed. Make sure to cover all the entrances and keep a good watch over the hostages. As long as you and your men keep away from the windows, you should be fine.“
There was a small pause.
„You HAVE closed the windows shut and pulled the curtains, right?“
„Yes. Well.. there aren't that many windows to begin with in this place. Most of them were in the casino's office anyway. But yes we have them all secured.“
„Then there's nothing to worry about.“
„But.. are you sure, honey?“
„Yes, I'm sure. We've been over this already.“
A hundred times, she added silently in her head.
„Just stick to the plan and everything will be fine.“
