With the end of the captain's transmission, Wallace took a sigh of relief - their first order of business was complete and their company could begin the real mission. He sunk his Den Den Mushi back beneath the murky abyss and tapped the owl's shoulder. "Just about here is fine," he ordered. The avian Aluco had already started descending prior to his command but now had a proper location on which to land. A short moment passed and the two finally reached the ground in what felt like ages. "This shall be where we part ways then."
Without a second to waste, Wallace slithered off the woman's back and emerged into his full corporeal form, clad in a stealthy lightweight suit and pants. "Mmmm. Ah!" The Ensign groaned after a long awaited stretch. Being confined within his ink puddle left no room for movement and kept his body stiff. If he were to go off and infiltrate the pirates' area, he needed the flexibility to maneuver within.
After he concluded his little warmup, Wallace felt slightly liberated. The stress of the situation had mostly subsided and now that the operation was more clearly established, his burden of duty felt a little lighter today. Though, he couldn't take all the credit. There was a certain someone whom he couldn't have done this survey without. As much as it irked him to acknowledge it, Aluco had exceeded his expectations. Perhaps a commendation was in order for the newcomer to the Division. After finding the words he'd use to recognize her talents, the man nodded to himself and turned around, hoping to find those amber orbs at eye level. Instead,
Sigh....
A long ensuing silence was all that transpired between them. Wallace stared deadpan, his eyes lowered further than he desired. In front of the Ensign stood not a woman but a bird. A goddamn bird. His throat tightened as he clenched his teeth just barely able to hold back his initial reaction. He could feel the blood in his balled fists heating up by the second. Before he could even begin to erupt however, the avian subordinate finally spoke up from the deafening silence with a "Good luck, Sir!" The oblivious officer turned to face the shores and waddled down those steps of rubble one talon at a time, leaving her superior to stare intently and fiercely in her direction.
For a second he just stood there, unsure how to process the event. His face had gone red but the flush quickly faded once the tawny owl disappeared from his view. Even so, the rage had not left him. Perhaps it was best to return to his work and leave such distractions for another time. Wallace turned away and faced the buildings harboring the criminals in question, ready to do what he did best. Yet even with the weight of his duty and the power of his captain's orders echoing in his mind, the man held his contorted fingers to his eyes and seethed with ire. The miniature white uniform and the sound of waddling turned his eyes bloodshot.
"No lethal force. God damn it, no lethal force..."
