"This is stupid," a very tired and hyperventilating doctor and puppeteer said between ragged breaths.
"I have the feeling that we can kill you, but we can't defeat you."
Toulon's weaponized puppets fell to the junk-strewn ground as he retracted the thin wires they depended on for movement into his four black, cybernetic arms.
"Please refrain from killing me or my crew as I disarm myself."
The sound of a series of clicks permeated the now quiet atmosphere that was followed by a loud THUNK of one of Toulon's metal arms falling to the ground. He tried to hide his muffled cry of pain within that sound.
The man with the three metal arms was down to two.
With less and less dexterity each time Toulon rid himself of three of his four arms.
By the time the second arm dropped to the junk strewn ground the sweating and bleeding man who had bitten through his lip gave up on being stoic and screamed as each nerve attached arm was abandoned like a lizard sacrificing its' own tail to escape.
"I relent, Miss. I stand here with a mere arm, mostly flesh and no puppets to defend myself."
Toulon assumed he looked more than pathetic with one arm and his labored breathing. It was something he actually hoped for.
"My people are going to look after yours. Obviously, I can't do anything. You have all of the physical power here. I just don't want anyone hurt. Pound me into the ground like a tent stake if you think the medical care of The Black Cross is inadequate. This is why we're here. This is who we are."
The fact that Andromeda had taken a position in front of him endeared her to Toulon. The world needed more people willing to protect others.
Without moving his lips Toulon muttered softly to Andromeda.
"If she agrees you can go. Sorry for all the trouble. But if you wish to stay I'd be glad for the protection."
Toulon extended his remaining hand to the crimson giantess hoping it won't be crushed.
"Do we have a deal?
