Ruby couldn’t move. She lay there, gasping for air, her eyes half closed. It hurt to breathe. It hurt to think. And yet despite all this, her mind found an excuse to be inquisitive. How did this all work really? Like sure, it was all science at some level.....but what was all this really? These powers didn’t care about the laws of thermodynamics or the conservation of energy. Unless at some level that energy was being taken from the user? But it didn’t seem proportional. If she had more time, she would have loved to ask these questions in the form of experiments.
But that wasn’t going to happen. She couldn’t turn to look at Agent Commander. She could only hear his heavy footsteps as he stood over her. This was it. She glanced weakly at the locker. Ruby smiled. It was fun while it lasted. And at least she made her mark on things. She always pushed forward, always seeking progress. Her only real regret thus far, was dragging Jan into this. She deserved better than getting mixed up with....
BOOM.
If Ruby could react, she would have. Instead she froze even stiffer than she already was in shock as the locker practically exploded. A shockwave of air preceded the door, which was blasted off its hinges like a ballistic missile. Ruby heard the impact above her, and she struggled to turn her face, protecting it from debris by burying it in her sleeve. The whole world turned to a loud, high pitched ringing. There was no sound, everything was muffled at best.
“Yaaaaaaaaay.....” Ruby gasped meekly, her heart jumping in her chest at the sight of her blonde, now obvious superior. Whoever she was, it didn’t matter. She was glorious in that moment. And Ruby was in silent, pained awe. If she could cheer, she’d be waving Pom poms like there was no tomorrow. Instead, she groaned in the most supportive way she could manage. “Whoooo girl.....I think....all the Silver....Islands....heard that.”
Agent Commander recovered, and slowly, he steadied himself. Straightening his back, he stared at Jan. Now he understood. No wonder Venus Jades lost to this girl. She was no ordinary person. Nor was she as simple as she appeared. She was more dangerous than the Logia by far. As much as his pride did not wish to suffer the blow to his ego, duty came above all things.
“Congratulations girl. I can no longer treat you carelessly. As much as I am loathe to admit it, I have to go all out against you.” He grinned, a strange, oddly satisfied grin. Cracking his neck, he reached up, and ripped off the tattered remains of his uniform, then after throwing it aside, reached up, and removed his broken helmet. He had thick, curly black hair, along with a salt and pepper beard that had once been the same color. A tank top was tucked into his trousers, but his physique was fully revealed. An ironclad body of tightly packed muscle, and olive skin went taut as piercing grey eyes regarded Jan dangerously.
And then he was moving. Not right at Jan, but to the side. With a flash of speed he slid across the ground, scooping up a pair of carbines. He leveled them at Jan and unloaded their clips, firing off ten rounds total in little more than a second before throwing the guns and darting away. He lunged into a wall, rebounding off towards Jan, spinning his momentum into a deceptive straight kick. Though the kick wasn’t aimed at Jan, rather over her head, where he would smash into another wall, knocking the debris down towards her. He used that cover to dash away quickly, aiming to keep her occupied as he formulated a real strategy. He was back in control now, and not holding back. Though injured, he still possessed a hardiness of body and strength that he was a real threat. He tried to go rapidly back and forth between testing her defenses with improvised projectiles and indirect melee attacks, picking up his pace as he went on, trying to break Jan’s defense.
